Willow Oak
My arm lands against the tree, bark flying as the axe I found by a group of trees where one had fallen. There was just an axe sitting on it and I decided to make the best of the resources I had. I thought to myself: I have an axe. I'm surrounded by trees. I might as well get some kindling. There was another bonus to that because I am normally very cold at night with the rest of my family because my step father is a complete jerk who just lays around the house all day ordering my mom around. I feel like the only one who ever really helped this family. I mean honestly, with my step father laying around, my mom rushing around for my step father, and my siblings to young to do anything useful, I find myself always rushing about, the only one trying to keep this family alive.
My arms ache immensely as I drown myself in thoughts of what just happened. The tree bark flying everywhere. I just needed to get away from our small house where you can always here the small television on. This time, it was broadcasting the games. The bloodbath had just happened and I think about how it went down. Blood flying everywhere and all the tributes just wandering around attacking each other randomly. There had been a little girl from district eight who had her jaw broken from a hit from another Tribute. There was a career from district two who died first from getting struck in I don't know what part. It was too gruesome to watch. Then there was that girl from district seven who had also died, most likely in pain.
Oh, how I wish I could have been a tribute. If I had been, I would have died and gotten away from this awful district with all it's stupid trees that seem to laugh at me as my arms swing, and swing, and swing. I am halfway through the tree when I stop to take a short break. I wish I had brought some water with me, but I thought I would have just been on a short walk around the forest with the trees that seem to mock me, and laugh at me. On the other hand, I think absentmindedly, if I had won I would have been able to leave my family behind and that hovel of a home far away where I would like it to be. Far away where my stupid step father wouldn't be able to swing his arm at me and hurt my leg. I drag my leg along now as I find a stump to sit on. My stupid step father had attacked me in a drunken rage within the first year he had been in my life. That awful year still seemed to torment my mind. I look up as I hear a sound. "Who's there?" I call out wonderingly, "Is anyone there?" Maybe it was just a squirrel or something that wandered past the fence. There where a ton of holes around it that it could have climbed through. Trust me, I searched sometimes if there was a hole large enough for me not to touch the electricity that coursed through the metallic fence. It was one of my many desperate attempts to escape from the small home I lived in.
Anyways, as I was really curious to what the sound was. I started walking towards it, my leg dragging along behind me.
