Birds fly through the air flapping their wings while hopping from tree to tree. A tiny girl runs beneath them with arms spread wide as she flies through the heat of the day. The sun sits high in the sky baring down brightly against the earth. Dried grass crunch beneath her feet, yet when the birds land in a tree, the tiny girl stops moving as well. Living a carefree life has always been her greatest wish. Protected from the harsh realities of the cruel world by a caring mother and father. Not understanding what's gone on since the dreaded day Esme was reaped. Evelyn still has no idea what happened. In the depths of her mind, her cousin has only gone missing along with her brother Kraygon. How long has it been? Not a single person has the heart to tell her the answer because death doesn't register well.
Reaching her arms around the tree, tightening her grip against the branches she hoists herself into the air. Flapping her wings as the birds fly away. A childish grin spreads across her face. All alone. No parents to stop her from having fun. Just her and the birds. It was a freedom the young girl deserved. A way to keep the innocence burning through her veins. Watching and waiting, the seventy pound girl climbed to the next branch. Growing higher and higher into the sky until she was level with the birds. Tiptoeing out from the base of a tree to the next branch her bright blue eyes flash wide. The same childish grin twists its way further across her face spreading from ear to ear. Many times her parents would snatch her away. Force her into doing something she didn't want. Evelyn was different. Always staying away from people. Throwing tantrums at the least expected moment. Covering her ears when those around spoke. Trying to run away from large crowds. Yet many people didn't understand.
Tiny hands flew through the air in attempt to snatch a bird. All the girl wanted was a friend. Someone free like her. Someone who could understand her, but it wasn't that easy. Her family took for granted what little she had, and in a few moments Pa would run through the fields looking for her, his little angel, as the animals in the barn were in need. It was now or never, but in the end did it matter? Slowly she inched her way further and further from the tree. The branch grew smaller and smaller, but fear was the last thing on her mind. Evelyn was a bird, and she dreamed of flying with them. It was the sound of the branch breaking that stopped her. Her blue eyes grew wider as a gentle breeze filled the sky. Her mouth agape frantic hands swung through the air. Spreading out like a bird in the distance. Pushing all her weight on her feet, she lunged forward. For a moment she was flying high through the air. Flying like a bird.
Wrapping her hands around the branch in front of her, she swung for a moment. Allowing the momentum to carry her forward. Expressing emotion hasn't been the easiest for the girl. A smile here and there. Sometimes a tear. Sometimes a tantrum, but right now Evelyn was having the time of her life. Living life the way she wanted to. Flying was fun. Amazing, and she climbed from branch to branch until her feet was level with the tree beside her. Slowly moving away from the center, all of her wait resting on the tip of her toes as she slowly moved towards the edge of the branch. Listening as the twigs snapped with every step she took, but it didn't stop her. The tiny girl prepared to jump. She prepared for the flight of her life. Arms spread wide, she stopped in her tracks long enough to look around. Hopefully nobody spotted her. Hopefully her family would leave the tiny girl alone because that's all she wanted. Alone time.
