Indigo Tornhell

Dark eyes fixed on the massive teeth marks left behind on his arm. A dog owned by a peacekeeper was lucky. Why he chose to save it was far beyond his imagination, but somehow he managed to escape. Muscle was shredded leaving his arm almost useless, yet it never stopped him from putting up a fight he enjoyed. Indigo thirst for a prize, a trophy, however, the mission was quickly aborted after an army of peacekeepers marched through the district heading straight for the fire. Indigo wouldn't ever forget the flames as they danced before his eyes radiating a bright orange color as the heat became unbearable, nor would he ever forget the screams as citizens ran from inside. Each time fire draped across the back of an innocent citizen, his soul sang with joy.

But now he was home.

In the depths of an alley that many people refused to travel, Indigo sat outside staring at the concrete ground in front of him. All he could hear was the tiny claws of rats as they scurried across the ground. Trash can after trash can fell over in the the distance as large gusts of wind flew through the air. Clouds covered the night sky shielding the moon and the stars from the view of the human eye. Explaining to his father why the mission failed wasn't a pleasant site. It wasn't something worthwhile. The words of his father slithered through his mind, but none of them bothered him. "You weren't supposed to get caught. How can I send you any more missions? You failed this one. You, Indigo Tornhell, are a failure." Indigo felt nothing leaving him just as empty as before.

Droplets of water fell from the sky splattering against the ground in a furious downpour. A wicked grin twisted across his face as he walked through the door of his home. "It's raining." He said simply before making the walk of shame. Every single person fixed their eyes on him. "Fuck off." But instead of retreating to the depths of his room, he turned around and headed back outside.

He could hear the rain pattering against the tin roofs. It was a music to his ears, but all Indigo wanted was for a young, innocent child to walk through the alley because his thirst grew stronger and stronger, and ever since the run in with the peacekeepers at the bar, he hasn't quenched the desire to sin in such a long time. It was in that moment he heard a set of footsteps moving towards him. His dark, beady eyes scanned the area pleading for a child to come his way, but what he saw at that moment was nothing he wanted to see.

A large grin spread across his face as he went inside his house. The door clicked behind him as he walked towards his backpack which was still full of petrol bombs. Grabbing one of them, along with his lighter. Indigo stood with his lighter in hand prepared to light the small yet powerful cloth on fire.

BOOM!

The door flew open splintering the pieces of wood as it flew across the inside of his house. He prepared to light the bomb on fire, but he stopped when he saw he was standing eye to eye with a peacekeeper.

You learn to walk, and from that you learn to run.

Life comprises of learning and watching and observing and then, once you think you've mastered it: performing. Perhaps the hardest part of the whole process is telling yourself that it's okay to make mistakes: a 'fucknotagain' attitude with hands sprawled up into the air achieves nothing.

Looking at what you've done and how you can make it better is so much more. It's what brings you alive and allows for your colours to become exaggerated, to fly and mix together into something beautiful. Learning is art.

But when you do have those days, the ones where it all seems too much and the weights on your shoulders cause you to crumble and you melt like an iron bar in a furnace-- you just need to learn to breathe. The technique is one which has kept us all alive for years gone by and years to come.

So why do we forget it?

I woke up like usual: tired and cold. The walls are thin yet somehow manage to make me feel stuck and secured into this place of hardship. I'm thrown out of bed by the ringing of the alarm to the side of my bed and force myself to change into the white suit. And once I do, I'm one of them.

The helmet goes on, the visor comes down, and from here onwards all I do is void.

A letter had come through in the days previous to now, a letter of which from the Capitol. I have it tucked away in a pocket on the inside of my suit. It's firmly drummed into my head, now, that I'm to arrest Indigo Tornhell. It's been on my mind for the past few nights, understandably, because this will be my first formal arrest.

I'm to arrest Indigo Tornhell for arson and destruction of Panem property.

The letter ends with "Panem today, Panem tomorrow, Panem forever." My eyes roll over it, quickly dancing my fingers as to fold it away, small, back into the pocket on my chest.

I had been to Two before, but the day wasn't like it is now. The sun was shining and the grass was sprinkled with glistening dew drops which absorbed the light accordingly. Now, shadows litter the streets like wounds to a tribute. The clouds above are countless shades of white and black and everything in between, each one carrying its injection of rain,

each one showering the District to wash away all thought gold and glitters.

I walk the streets with my head held high, the sound of the rain splattering against my helmet is a relaxing one yet I'm not affected by it. My limbs lock together, holding my gun across and close to my chest. My fingers tense around it as I take a left and am greeted by a dump of an alleyway.

I smirk.

The wind carries my tension in front of me, whisking away fear of what's to come. Indigo Tornhell from District Two. Rotten food and torn paper is flung aside by the strength of the gusts as a trash can tumbles over against a wall, the sound startling me slightly yet I blink as to brush it aside.

No weakness.

I catch a short glimpse of a figure, my feet striding towards the silhouette with great force until they disappear behind a door. Robotically, my leg lifts and kicks the door repeatedly - each swift movement causing the door to concave and bend - until eventually, it's beaten to a pulp.

Splinters fly from the door like arrows from a bow, raining down onto the flooring of the home like the wild rain just behind me. The figure remains still in his movements: Indigo Tornhell. He holds a small bomb in his hand, a lighter in the other.

Ripred, don't light it.

He freezes as his eyes meet y inky visor and I pace towards him like a predator to prey.

"Drop the weapon! Put your hands where I can see them and remain still!"

My voices beats like a drum as I stand, finger to trigger before the boy.

Indigo Tornhell

Indigo wasn't afraid of some stupid peacekeeper, nor was he afraid of the Capitol. Nobody owned him, not even his father. He was his own person trapped in a world controlled by a bunch of fools. Yet all he could see as the door flew open was hi family running to hide like a bunch of cowards leaving him alone with the devil. A huge gust of wind blew through the house spraying the inside with the massive amount of rain falling from the sky.

Splintered pieces of mahogany spray through the air mixing with the wind. Curtains slam against the window frames as the peacekeeper comes directly into view. Indigo stares at the peacekeeper standing in the door especially as she comes closer and closer with each step. A hand wraps around a gun as it aims directly at him. It wouldn't be the first time he was shot, yet all he could think about was the fact that the peacekeeper could kill him making him a martyr. But the voice he heard only made him laugh.

A female coming to arrest the almighty Indigo Tornhell. She was just a mere peasant. Just another being not worthy of standing in his presence. Oh the fun he could have with this especially when she orders him to drop the bomb he's holding tightly in his hands.

"Such a wonderful trophy. A beautiful female peacekeeper." Asking him to drop it. His bomb. His weapon. His everything.

Haven't they learned not to ask him to drop the bomb?

A male peacekeeper sent a dog to destroy him - the mark of its teeth remain etched deep inside his arm. He asked for him to drop the bomb, but it quickly turned around.

Apparently they haven't. A large grin twisted its way across his face spreading from ear to ear as his eyes turned towards the peacekeeper standing in front of him as she marched closer with a finger on the trigger waiting to blast him to pieces. That Capitol wouldn't miss him if he died right here.

"You want me to drop this?" He asked curiously holding the bomb into the air. "Have it your way." Turning behind him, his eyes landed on the backpack full of bombs behind him. Oh what fun this was going to be especially if the flames hit the bag. He quickly lit the piece of fabric on fire before flinging the bomb at the ground in front of himself. Pieces of glass shattered against the tiled floor. Shards flew in every direction, and a flame quickly danced up his pant leg burning his flesh. A sweat aroma filled his nostrils as his flesh sizzled beneath the ruined jeans.

"If you want me, come and get me." He laughed as he stood there allowing the flames to crawl up his body. "Unless, you're too afraid?" He challenged her as amusement flashed through his eyes.

His face morphs into a sickening smile, twisted to reveal his teeth which glistening in the flood of light entering through the battered door.

"You want me to drop this?"

"That's what I asked, Tornhell."

"Have it your way."

I blink and the room erupts into a pool of flames. I laugh as the little boy throws one of the bombs onto the floor he stands on, and only laugh harder beneath my helmet as the flames engulf him, surrounding him like darkness when a time of light is needed.

Who does this child think he is? Grinning at me like some kind of monster, yet he looks like a child who just figured out what fire is. I can't wait for him to get a grip of the real fucking world, I can't wait for him to be locked up and beaten by my bat to a pulp of red on the concrete floors of the detention centre.

Fuck him.

"If you want me, come and get me. Unless you're too afraid?"

Fear. It strikes the body like a bullet through a skull: rapidly, blasting through everything in it's path until it reaches the core. We've all felt it, even if we try to deny it and encase ourselves in a shell of iron and protection. We reassure ourselves, yet even the strongest of metals have a melting point.

And once they melt, you're alone.

To fight for yourself and stand up for your life. Fear. It keeps you living and makes the blood flow around your body with vibrance and excitement, it fuels the adrenaline until your eyes turn sharp and your face: fierce, and it's then that you are the epitome of someone who is ready.

"I'm not scared, boy."

I keep my visor down, staring into his eyes through the plastic. I slyly move my gun down, so that the bullet inside would aim straight for his knee. My finger feels the frozen trigger and it's force breaks the ice.

I shoot.

In the short moment between chaos and chaos, I throw myself onto him, onto the dancing colours of red, orange, yellow and blue which rise around me.

The male peacekeeper behind me strides forth towards the boy and kicks him in the shoulder repeatedly, before realising the fire is probably a larger issue. He runs to grab a blanket from a bed, placing it over the flourishing blaze, patting it with a heavy arm.

"The more crime, the more time. Even children like you can understand that."

The words manage to appear clearly from my struggling voice as I whisper them carefully into the boy's ear. I'm not scared. And I'm okay with that. But what I'm not okay with is people not knowing there place.

A boy from District Two who has taken part in arson and destruction of the Capitol's property should know his place.

I'll make sure he knows.

Indigo Tornhell

"I'm not scared, boy." Her words were strong, but none of them meant anything to him. A woman had no authority over him especially one dressed in white from the Capitol. Were they going to kill him? Indigo had no hope. No fate. Nothing. Just this simple moment. A life or death situation. Either he could cooperate with the peacekeepers, or he could fight over and over until nothing was left. Surely one less criminal in the detention center wouldn't be much of a loss.

Calmness turns into complete chaos in a matter of seconds. Indigo barely had time to react as he heard the bullet leaving the gun to the time it flew straight through his knee. White fire danced across his skin as he fell towards the ground in a pool of orange and red. Blood poured from the gaping hole in his knee, yet he refused to make a sound. He refused to give in to the pain this lady in white caused. Indigo was used to pain. He was used to feeling it every single day of his life, but this was much, much worse.

Clothing began melting to his skin as the flames grew hotter and hotter around him, yet the grin never once left his face. Indigo was enjoying it. The pain. The torture. Nothing could ever compare to the amount of joy the boy was feeling now. Especially when the lady jumped on top of him. All the air was knocked from his body as a boot connected with his shoulder over and over. A loud crunch rang through his ears, and for a moment he gritted his teeth. The bastard just broke his shoulder, and he would pay for it.

"What are you going to do? Kill me?"

Death wasn't a word he feared. Fear of a word was crazy, but Indigo had a fear. He feared becoming an Avox and working for the Capitol for the rest of his life. In the back of his mind he promised himself over and over he would kill himself if that happened. It was worse than death itself.

Soon a blanket placed over top the flame quickly causing it to die out.

"The more crime, the more time. Even children like you can understand that."

Punishment was waiting for him, but he wasn't going quietly.

"You ignorant bimbo. I wonder what a beautiful lady like yourself is doing in this line of work. Have you ever killed someone? Are you willing to die? Because I am. So if you've come here to kill me, by all means put that bullet through my head. It wouldn't bother me one bit."

There's a deafening crunch that emerges from the boy's shoulder as his frail construction of bones takes my weight. The fabrics on his arms begin to fade before my eyes, the flames forging their way a path through to this skin. Yet he remains calm.

He seemed happy?

"What are you going to do? Kill me?"

Not yet.

His words merely drift past my ear from this point onwards, as I am more concentrated on the job staining my hands. Indigo Tornhell from District Two, wanted for arson and destruction of Capitol property. He has to take the train with me to the detention centre, and it is there that he can struggle as he finds no coins to pay the price.

He squirms underneath me, until he relaxes, his voice entering the thick, smoky air once more.

"You ignorant bimbo. I wonder what a beautiful lady like yourself is doing in this line of work. Have you ever killed someone? Are you willing to die? Because I am. So if you've come here to kill me, by all means put that bullet through my head. It wouldn't bother me one bit."

There is no beauty in becoming a peacekeeper. I did this for myself, to prove to myself that the impossible can be reached, the dreams can be achieved. With a little time and hard-work, you can complete anything. The girl I was before is nothing compared to the lady I have flourished into now.

I wouldn't trade this for her, not today, tomorrow or any day.

And his question, the answer is no. No, I've never killed someone. I've never felt the need to, they comply usually, and realise the importance and handing themselves in. They are the people who end up back with their families, the ones who answer back and write ballads of their time with a peacekeeper are the ones who return in pieces.

Mentally, physically, emotionally.

The second question has the answer in common with first. I won't let myself die in this situation or any like it. Ice to iron, caterpillar to butterfly, we grow from each stage of our lives. Throwing it all down a lousy drain is pointless, worthless and defeats the idea of learning from mistakes. No, I'm not willing die, and someone else saying they are meaning nothing to me.

It doesn't even make me flinch.

And, honey.

Honey, honey honey. In all honesty, there's nothing stopping me from killing him now and dumping his body in a mass grave. But I don't want to, I want to see him feel the pain which he ignores now, I want blood to reign over him like a royal, an invader to his body as he is left to crumble under the hurt, crumble to nothing.

I want to see him change. Boy to man, criminal to innocent. Yet, I suppose that the latter can never really happen. My eyes shift around his home, bombs still remain and there are signs of other weaponry around every corner. He could never be an innocent, not even if I fought, not even if he tried.

"I want to see you feel pain."

I inhale, pushing him over onto his back.

"I want to see you struggle."

My hands take a firm hold of both of his, my left moving into a pocket in my suit to pull out a pair of handcuffs. My right slips them over his wrists and with a simple, swift movement of my fingers they snap into place.

"And once I'm content with that performance, I'll want you dead for good."

Indigo Tornhell

It was over. The scent of his burning flesh entered into his airway. Such a lovely smell. One he wouldn't ever forget. It was a prize. A trophy of a war he couldn't win, yet admitting defeat was never on his bucket list. Indigo Tornhell had found his match. He knew the moment his shoulder collapsed beneath the weight of the entire world that his fight was done. Not even the world's strongest career could carry on. His smile slowly faded away leaving him in an emotionless expression. He was empty. Nothing remained inside of him except the blood flowing through his veins throughout his entire body.

Indigo felt nothing.

"I want to see you feel pain."

Pain. Something he wasn't used to. Something the almighty Indigo refused to feel making himself numb to the entire world. Every beating he ever took for every mistake he created. He wasn't good enough for his father. A man who had no mercy. A man who never gave anyone the benifit of the doubt. Indigo wasn't ever like Snake. Snake was vial and cruel, and Indigo was only a wannabe.

Gasping for air beneath the soot, ashes, and thick cloud of smoke, he was forced onto his back. He coughed trying to clear his lungs of everything flowing through the tiny room of the house. Incoherent shouts of his father echoed through his mind. You aren't good enough, Indigo Tornhell. You are a failure. A hammer cracked inside his skull each time his heart beat behind his chest, but Snake wasn't there. It was him and the peacekeepers.

"I want to see you struggle."

Her hands wrap around his. For a split second he considered trying to escape. Trying to get away from the woman of authority. Cuffs snap across his wrists restraining him. It was over. Or was it?

"And once I'm content with that performance, I'll want you dead for good."

A tornado swept through his mind. Word after word pierced his skull bouncing around inside his jumbled mind. Had she won? Had she really just arrested Indigo? He refused to believe it, but the truth was set in front of him. He was done fighting, at least phsically. Yet his voice remained strong while he grit his teeth fighting against the pain as the numbness slowly went away.

"I doubt you could kill a fly."

As the words left his lips, another smile spread across his face. "Let alone another human."

He stopped moving. He stopped everything he was doing. Each passing second grew longer and longer, yet he had no idea what was coming. What was worse: the punishment waiting for him, or Snake returning home to a smashed in door and his adopted son laying on the floor with a peacekeeper arresting him? It only took a moment to answer. His father's fury was more than anything he could ever possibly go through.

Which left him with one last thought.

He had to get out of here before his father returned.

"I guess today you have your prize, but I promise it won't be long until I receive mine. A trophy is waiting, and I can't wait to claim it."
