First off, a big thank you to all who interviewed for the Junior Dev position - I had a great time interviewing all of you, and hope you had fun working through the technical problems with me, too. Unfortunately I don't have the capacity to hire and work with all of you, much as I might like to - but, as I told a few of you during our talk, absolutely feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have, or for any guidance learning to program, or for pretty much whatever.

All that said, allow me to present анзие (Anz) as my first Junior Developer! shrimp will also be joining us on the Dev Team in a few weeks. I look forward to working with both of you! Congrats!

Just in case anyone wanted to try their hand at the technical questions I asked the candidates, here's (roughly) what we talked through:


Logic (powers of 2)
1. Suppose the Games were run as a series of 1v1 fights. If each of the 10,386 members had exactly one tribute, and each tribute completed 1 fight per day, how many days would it take for the Games to finish?


Pseudocode is perfectly fine. Pseudo-functions are perfectly fine, too, if it's obvious what they do. I might ask you to elaborate further.


Sorting (loops, comparisons)
2. Write a function that will take an unordered list of numbers and sort it from least to greatest (e.g. [4, 2, 5, 12, 1, 7, 3] -> [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12]). Assume no duplicates.


Testing
>3. So, the main portion of the Games Engine works by taking two tributes (an attacker and a defender) plus a dice code. Tributes have all the attributes you'd expect (current damage, a list of training stations, an inventory full of items) plus a few you might not (mainly maximum health, which is set at 40 damage). What are some combinations of inputs (attacker, defender, dice code) that you'd use to verify that the Engine is working correctly?

>Basically: pretend that I wrote some function `engine(attacker, dice, defender)` that takes two tributes (one attacker and one defender) plus the dice roll. I want you to try to break my function, to get it to return some incorrect result, but all you can do is give it valid inputs

For example:

so - sorry idk if i made this more confusing by saying the inputs must be valid, but the inputs _together_ don't need to make a valid attack, just that each tribute (by themselves) is a valid tribute (e.g. no -100 damage, no armor +500 torso or whatever) and that each dice code is a legit dice code (and not, say, something that does negative damage to the affected tribute)

4. Come up with a function called `hot_damn` that takes some number `n` and does the following with it:

1. print every number up to (and including) n
1a. if the number is a multiple of 3, print 'hot' instead of the number
1b. if the number is a multiple of 5, print 'damn' instead of the number
1c. if the number is a multiple of both 3 and 5, print 'hotdamn' instead of the number
```



5. How would you write a function that prints out a reaping list?

Assume all the characters are stored in an array of hashes:

Helpful data structure hints:

1) An array is just a list of items, which could be numbers, strings, or something more complex.

2) A hash is a set of key-value pairs, where you can quickly look up some 'value' given its 'key'. For example, let `arbor` = the first character hash that I gave. You could quickly figure out what district `arbor` belonged to by calling `arbor[:district]` or how old he was by calling `arbor[:age]`. Like arrays, the value stored at a given key can be anything: numbers, strings, or something more complex.
