Kraygon Truus

Silence had long devoured me. Every night the same sounds repeated over and over until nothing remained. Time stopped moving. Footsteps drown into one. The sound of a boot stopping in front of a cell was nothing new. The sound of a lock clicking open mixed with the sound of innocent souls pleading with whoever it was takig them to have mercy rang through my ears every single night. Yet nothing ever changed. It was quiet, and I was alone.

Figuring out how long I've been alive in hell was far more than anything I could ever imagine. Minutes turned into hours. Hours turned into days. Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. I wasn't in the same hell that Esme had gone through. No, I was in a different hell. It didn't involve fighting for my life - I was fighting for my sanity. To stay true to who I am, but everything I ever knew about myself was long gone. I was alone in my mind. Just a mere memory of what had happened, and the future of what is to come.

When I first got here, they placed a grey jumpsuit on me which was far too small. Each breath I took hurt far worse than anything I ever thought possible, but now the grey fabric is almost five sizes too large for me, and it takes every ounce of strength inside of me to keep it from falling towards the ground exposing my naked body. What dignity I came in here with is gone. My pride was smashed like a bug. All I have left is a piece of fabric holding my life together.

Then it happend. The familiar sound of boots walking down the halls. Each step echoed in my mind. Each step drew closer and closer. My breaths caught in the back of my throat - I couldn't breath. It drew closer and closer - click - they stopped. My eyes fixed on the black boots waiting outside the door. My heart raced inside my chest as I forced myself off the shelf towards a corner far from the door. Violent shrieks escaped from my lips. Every single wound screamed for mercy. My lungs begged for it all to stop. Many times I wished I would fall over dead.

I watched as the key opened the door and the bars flew open. Oh God, please save me. But I'm alone trapped in the dark like a wild animal cornered by a predator. My heart leaped over and over trying to figure out what to do, but it was all silent. The silence was deafening. For a moment the world was light. I could see the tiled floors. Then it was silent as pain shot throughout my body. It had been so long since a tear fell from my eyes. My head slammed into the tiled floor, and I could feel blood seeping through my hair. I felt the boot -

Dark.

Muffled voices buzz through my ears. I try with all my strength to raise a hand to reach them, but I can't move. Something is holding me down. But it's still dark. Darker than anything I ever imagined. I could hear them talking amongst themselves. Laughter. It's all it took. Relaxing against the restraints, I forced myself to calm down. Every hair stood on end, but for now I was alive.

I heard the sound of the tires screeching against the tracks. I wanted to scream. I wanted to beg them to kill me because I would rather die than serve the Capitol, but it didn't do any good. Blood trickled from my nose running down my face. Every part of my body ached, but it wasn't nothing anymore. I had become numb.

A sharp jolt shot through my body as I rolled forward as the train came to a stop, and I let myself go limp, but soon they had me on my feet leading me from the train. Batons slammed into my body over and over. Ribs cracked beneath them. Each breath caused much more pain than it should've. Electricity shot through my veins as a stun gun slammed into my skin over and over. Blood ran from the corner of my lips as the baton hit my stomach. Each blow brought on a new pain. One I hadn't felt before, and I stumble forward landing on the ground as jagged edges of rocks force their way into my face.

""Get up." One of the men barked, and iron hands jerked me to my feet. I couldn't move. I couldn't do anything anymore except pray they didn't kill me. It's so dark, and I have no idea where I'm going. No idea what to except, but I didn't expect the baton to slam into me over and over. Every step that I take was a mistake. It wasn't good enough. I'm not good enough.

Falling towards the ground once more, I have nothing left to carry on. I can't move. I can't breath. It hurts, and I want them to leave me here to die. Just let me die, but it doesn't happen. A boot slams into me over and over as they order me onto my feet, but I can't feel them. How am I supposed to follow orders when my legs are gone? But they're there. I just can't feel them. A boot connects with the back of my head, and for the longest time I'm stunned seeing stars flash before my eyes, but then there's nothing. Just darkness.

THUD!

My body screams as I land on the hard ground, but I have nothing left. It's silent, and I can hear the men walking away. Each step growing further and further away. I can hear the sounds of tires squealing as they drive away. And then once more it's silent. Until I hear a tiny voice echoing through the air.

"Mama. Porch. Mama!"

Night rolled over the ranch slowly casting its long shadow over all of Panem. A soft breeze danced gently through Bailey's blonde locks as the nightingale cried softly in the distance. Chills licked across Bailey's pale skin from the icy touch of her restraints. No longer did blood and tears stain her bed from her trying to escape. No she accepted that she was a prisoner. A girl the family could never trust again all because she had almost killed little Cowie. Too bad they didn't focus on the fact that she didn't. She was heart broken, could anyone truly blame her for that?

Far off from the district square Bailey could hear the monotonous whistles of a train arriving at the dusty station. Her eye brows rose as she looked out of her window and off into the darkened district. Trains very rarely visited the district this late, and whenever it did it usually wasn't good. However eventually the whistles grew silent and the songs of the birds began once again. Yet Bailey still felt an odd stirring in the cool air as she gazed into the darkness.

Even with a feeling of uncertainty, Bailey turned her attention towards the tv on her wall. The games were all that were being broad casted at this point and she had to admit she couldn't care. All she ever saw during the games was Esme. Her killing and her dying just the same. She even saw visions of Kraygon swept away to be butchered some where. All she.... hmmmmmm.

The odd humming noise made Bailey turn quickly back to her window as an armored peace keeper vehicle approached the house. Terror flashed through Bailey's body as she cowered behind her window's curtains. That was until she saw them throw someone out of the car and then drive away.

From below her Bailey heard her little bird call out about the man on the porch. Her tone was worried and unlike anything Bailey had heard before. A sort of song that couldn't be ignored. So restraints and all Bailey pulled her door open and rushed down the creaky old wooden stairs of their house and out the front door.

The breeze swam around her lavender night gown as she approached the man. However as she got closer she finally gasped and ran to his side. After nearly two years he had returned. He wasn't dead. He wasn't dead. Tears streamed from her eyes as she did her best to pull him into a sitting position. Blood surely was leaking from beneath her restraints but all she could see was him as a weak smile broke her soggy cheeks. "Kraygon." She muttered, "I thought you would never come home."
