Odysseus Hammerfell-Alezander
Eighteen | Male | District Two
Eighteen | Male | District Two
Icy chills ran across his body as the palm of his hands connected with the tiled floor. Emotionless eyes focused on the grey walls. His mind was numb. Counting the amount of time that had gone by was impossible. Footsteps buzzed through his ears on a daily basis. The familiar sound of the boots belonging to the men who brought him in. He never moved from the corner except to use the restroom. It was very cramped for quarters. Standing was impossible. Stretching his legs out didn't work. His teeth chattered against one another. Sleepless nights forced him into fits of agony. Was it worth it? Assaulting the peacekeeper after Orion volunteered? Was it worth the pain he has to go through? No matter how many questions flew through his mind, he couldn't discover any answers. His heart was calm. His lungs weren't screaming, yet Odysseus couldn't move because every now and then his breaths would catch in his throat making the entire world stop moving.
How long had he been here? Has the games ended? Was Orion alive wondering where he was? Had he died in the games? Who was the victor? The only way to figure it out was escaping. Freedom was what he longed for. A chance to show his loyalties rested with the Capitol, but in the back of his mind, Odysseus knew he wouldn't ever trust the Capitol. He wouldn't ever work for them. Over and over he tried coming up with different scenarios as to how his punishment would play out. What would they do to him? Every single fear stood at the front of his mind echoing through his skull. Becoming a slave wasn't on his bucket list, but hitting a peacekeeper wasn't either. The amount of pain he felt was much more than he could ever imagine. Orion wasn't a fighter, so watching him volunteer, listening to his words took a toll on him. Odysseus was shattered. He was angry, but now he was none of those. Anger flew away the moment the peacekeeper knocked on the door to his house. Right now, the anger became fear.
Boots clicking against the floor echoed through his mind. For hours he watched as citizens were taken away. The boots sounded through the hall. Every inmate grew quiet as they waited and watched praying with all the life of them that the peacekeepers weren't coming for them. Odysseus had done the same over and over. So far he had been lucky. He listened as the footsteps grew closer, and louder and they matched the tune of his frantic heart leaping behind his chest. His eyes drifted shut as he tried holding back the tears threatening to roll down his face. He counted the steps the peacekeepers took. He listened for the click of the heels signaling they had stopped, and once the sound filled his ears, he held his breath keeping his eyes shut. The familiar sound of a key opening the lock registered deep inside. The door flew open as his eyes flickered open once more.
His heart leaped into his throat. Four uniformed men stood before him gradually coming closer. His first instinct was to run. To plow through the peacekeepers and escape the building, yet the words he spoke to Kit kept ringing through his mind. I have no reason to fight. Odysseus didn't want to fight. He didn't want to tear away the words he spoke. Accepting his future lingered before his mind as iron hands wrapped around him jerking him to his feet. His head bounced off the wall as the forced him away. It was impossible. I said I wouldn't be ready. I said I couldn't do it, but I accept it. Accepting his fate was hard, yet with every breath he took, he managed to keep control. His future was beginning. It was a road block towards success. The obstacle was so high it blocked the light at the end of the tunnel, yet he knew it was there.
As they led him through the corridors, Odysseus journeyed through the tunnel getting closer and closer to happiness. He was afraid, but he wouldn't let this get him down.
Orion, I need you brother. I really need you. He inhaled sharply as they stopped in front of a door. I'm trusting you, man. I'm really trusting you.
