The note at my desk has sent me here where the smell of crispy flesh and boiling blood still lingers in the square.

You have been reassigned to District 2. Effective immediately. Further details to come.

I didn't need to be told what had happened here; I could smell the crime in the air. It seemed this job would be anything but boring. Thankfully. I had begun to worry that the citizens of the Districts were losing their creativity. But burning an officer alive? I smirk at the idea. Someone knows how to create a spectacle. Unfortunately, scorching an interrogation subject would likely result in many unanswered questions. I'll have to stick to the usual means; perhaps I could burn someone in my free time.

I'm greeted by the suit in charge who looks at me with a sort of disgust, seeing my lack of uniform and disdain for authority as childish no doubt. And yet I'm the one they call when things go wrong. I ignore most of his assessment of the situation. I only need a name. And seeing as the kid gave his name to a whole crowd of people, clearly he just wanted to be recognized. Hammerfell, Torka. I walk away from the officer in charge with nothing more than a nod. Those masks and suits they wear may be threatening to mere mortals, but I don't fear costumes.

I walk past the crime scene, enthused by the crispy corpse left there for me to assess. Thing is it's nothing more than a spectacle for all the rebellious souls of Panem that Peacekeepers aren't invincible. I nod to one of the Peacekeepers watching over the crime scene. "Clean this mess up," I say sternly. "And let everyone know the barbecue is over." I glance around the square where a few curious eyes still linger.

A little girl---blonde, blue eyes, dressed in tattered jeans and a bandeau with grease stains, maybe 13 years old---looks at me for just a split second too long. I grab her arm as she turns, grasping tighter as she tries to slip away. She whimpers but no adults seem to be here to watch her. "Hello sweetie," I purr with a smile as she claws at my hand. "Now I'm not gonna hurt you---" She looks at me reluctantly, her eyes a mixture of fiery hatred and paralyzing fear. "Much."

I think she wants to spit in my face as I stoop to her level. I grab her face and she yelps. "Now, before you make the wrong decision, I'm going to ask something of you."

The fear grows in her eyes and I smirk. "Where is the Hammerfell residence?" I let go of her face, keeping her arm shackled by my grasp. Her words are strong and confident to make up for the fear in her eyes. "Up your ass."

I laugh. Clearly I picked a fighter. My job has always been to break the fighters.

"I just bleached it this morning," I reply, shoving her down an alleyway. She stumbles into a trash can and falls to the ground. "And I didn't find any Hammerfells up there. Nice try though, sweetie." I take a cigar out of my leather jacket, followed by a lighter, and take a deep breath. I bend over and puff the smoke in the girl's face. She swats at the smoke as she clambers to her feet. Too proud to run. Just how I like them.

"Either take me to Torka Hammerfell," I say, grabbing her face again and pulling her close. I hold my cigar in the other hand, bringing the burning end close to her face. I press it into her neck. She screeches at the pain, squirming in my grasp. "Or the next place I put this cigar will be in your eye."

Torka Hammerfell

The scent of his burning corpse flew through my nose as I sat on the ground staring at the crispy corpse. Never in my entire dreams did I think I could murder a peacekeeper by myself. It was a perfect idea. Dousing him in lighter fluid before throwing lit matches on top of him. I won't ever forget his bloodcurdling screams as the flames ate away at his precious flesh. I only laughed as his skin melted away from his body, and if that wasn't enough, I doused him with more lighter fluid making him a human torch. I don't know what Odysseus had done, but I know for fact that mine had outmatched his. These people will know that I am the one who deserves the attention. Not anyone else. My parents along with the rest of my family left me invisible. I'm no longer the ghost walking along through life. No, I am now noticeable. I am visible.

It's when I saw him. A peacekeeper of authority heading my way. Heading towards the scene, yet he doesn't look like any other keeper I've ever met in my entire life. His attire is different - casual. I'm so used to seeing them marching around in the uniform. It's a shame that he didn't know it was me who created this master piece. It took so much time and planning only to go unnoticed once more. The corners of my lips curl back into a crooked grin. Why am I always unnoticed? Why is it this man is turning his undivided attention to the oh so tiny girl? It makes me shake my head as I bring my head to my knees. It has been my goal to get them notice me. I wanted to destroy something that was much, much worse than Odysseus had done. I want my name to be spoken in fear as people stare upon me, but it never seems to happen. The only people they care about is Orion and Mason. The celebrities of the family. They only make my blood boil because they get all the attention, and I get none!

I listen as he speaks to the girl threatening to put the cigar in her eye. It's quite a punishment for someone who hasn't done anything wrong. Well, maybe I can make it stop and finally get my name known to everyone around. Pushing myself into a standing position I look around. Will he notice me now? Will he see that I had done this? That I don't fear him? I have no reason to because he'll be next. I laugh to myself slightly. Perhaps letting this girl get hurt would only add joy to my day, but I can't do that. She can't take the blame for my artwork. I planned it so carefully. Every move I planned before I took it. The way I drew him to the square to the example I made of him.

"The big bad peacekeeper come to arrest me? How cute. I'd like to see you try."

I really shouldn't be all that surprised to hear the deeper voice over my shoulder. Classic pride. It's quite obvious now that this kid wanted the attention and won't be letting anyone else take the credit anytime soon. It's always easier with these sort of psychos. They are too proud to hide and too stupid to run. Easy to catch, no matter how big and bad they think they are. They all fall eventually.

I let the girls arm slip from my grip. She runs off, her fear showing in how quickly she disappears. Though I must say, I am uncertain whether she is hiding from me or Jarhead over here. My expertise is in children--- scrawny, puny addicts from the sewers of District 3 ---certainly not in huge, hulking Careers from District 2. He's taller than me, biceps twice the size of mine, and probably better trained in all forms of combat. Too bad for him I disarm with a drug and not my fists. He will end up on the losing end of this, one way or another.

"The big bad peacekeeper come to arrest me? How cute. I'd like to see you try."

I bring the cigar to my lips, take a long, deep pull, and exhale. The smoke fills the air around my head, burning my eyes as I let the cigar fall to the ground. I shove my hands in my jacket pockets, take a step forward. "No, not a Peacekeeper," I smirk. "The Scarecrow." I let the trigger for the airborne spray fall into my palm. As much as I dislike my superior officer and druglord, I must admit his special brand of morphling always seems to do the trick in putting the big boys down.

"As much as it pains me though, I do have to arrest you." I say, kicking a rock at my feet. It dances across pavement and stops in front of Hammerhead. "Hammerfell, Torka. Citizen of District 2. You should not even dare to fight me." I don't even bother to puff myself up to look like I might be his size. There is no real point. The drug I have is too potent; the fear I cause is too immobilizing.

"I'm your worst nightmare."

Torka Hammerfell

The Scarecrow. Cute name for this peacekeeper. As if I'll ever be arrested by someone called the Scarecrow. "Nice name, Mr Crow. Any sane person wouldn't dare fight someone like you. Never said I'm sane." I don't care who this man is or what he's capable of. If he thinks he'll be able to intimidate me into submission, well he has another thing coming to him. He claims to be my worst nightmare. Mr Crow my worst nightmare? Hardly. The only thing entering my head in the form of a nightmare happens to be another of my siblings being sent off to the games to embarrass the family name.

"I'd like to see what you're made of, but I know you'll hide behind the fancy bullshit you have to subdue me. Are you truly man enough to fight with your fists? Or will you prove that you're a coward."

I really want to see what he's made of. I'm smart enough to know that I won't be walking away from this encounter without being arrested. So why not have a bit of fun and leave the district in a blaze of glory?

"Come on Mr Crow. I'm having a barbeque. The special course? Peacekeeper."

There's something about an imminent arrest that gives me the balls to talk like this to someone who could easily shoot me in the face without a single fuck given. That's the beauty of this moment. If I'm leaving this district possibly never to return alive why not go out in such way as to be remembered? Oh how I'd love to fight this guy with my bare hands. No weapons. No bullshit. Only my bare knuckles to go by.

"What's it going to be? We can make this a fun adventure here. We both know I'm going to be arrested. Why not have a teaser of the fun that's surely awaiting me?"

Just take the bait Crow. Please. I'm eager to see what someone of your caliber is made of.

Fantastic. You know, I've always thought it was more fun when the prey fought back. It's not often that they do. Especially in this world. Rebellion is squashed before it can even begin. Hope is dashed with each passing year as more children are hauled off like cattle from 10. It's hard to find the people who are still kicking in Panem. But my job is to get them to stop kicking, to break them.

I've never been the ordinary Peacekeeper. Interrogation has always been my strong suit, following orders has always been difficult for me. The ways in which I gain intelligence are unorthodox, but President Snow's team of suppressors has always been great at shutting the door and looking away. It creates perfect conditions for people like me to work.

And as soon as I see this punk kid fall---that's when I will be having a good day.

Clearly the boy confuses cowardice with intelligence. Typical of people with his body type. The weaker don't fight because they are scared. (I am the Scarecrow; I fear nothing.) The weaker refuse to fight because they actually possess an ounce of brain cells.

"Come on Mr Crow. I'm having a barbeque. The special course? Peacekeeper."

Still---wouldn't it bring so much satisfaction to punch this kids teeth in? At least then he wouldn't be able to speak. I'd thoroughly enjoy ripping his tongue from his skull.

"What's it going to be? We can make this a fun adventure here. We both know I'm going to be arrested. Why not have a teaser of the fun that's surely awaiting me?"

This moment of stupidity might just be worth it. A black eye, a broken nose, bruised ribs, busted lip, dangling jaw---all of it would be worth the price of hitting him. I bring myself forward, keeping my secret drug hidden away. For now. This kid wanted to hit me? Fine. I may not be able to hit back any harder, but as soon as he was in an interrogation room---

I smile.

"Fine. I'll indulge you, kid."

And I clock him as hard as I can.
