what you seeStanding at 6'5'', Jericho has always been fairly tall amongst others his age. He weighs in at just around 200 pounds due to the muscle that covers the majority of his body. His frame is large and imposing, a sign of his roots as a Career from District Two. His skin has a light tan across it due to the long days out in the sun, though it still appears rather fair nonetheless. His shoulders are often pushed back with his chest pushed out; his posture has always been optimal. Jericho is a very well built man, having noticeable muscles lining his shoulders, arms, chest, abs, and legs. He maintains it with boxing and training in the Keeper's areas.
Dirty blonde hair is almost always puffed up and out of the way of his face, otherwise hanging messily all around. It's thick and rough to the touch, more like a mane than hair. Stubble stretches across his jawline, kept shorter at all times to make him appear fairly clean cut. Bright blue eyes look out through bruised eye sockets, standing out against the colour of the surrounding skin, as well as the lightness of his face in general. His pupils tend to always appear very small - a black dot swimming within a sea of blue.
A very rigid face looks back with interest. His jawline is fairly straight, ending in a rounded chin. Most of the youthfulness to his face has been lost, being replaced with more manly features. His nose is thin and long, turning up slightly at the base. Lips are long and thick, the corner often pulled up in a smirk. His eyebrows are thin and rather low, giving him an almost permanent look of seriousness. His ears are long but remain tucked back against his head and often covered by his hair. A very thick neck with a prominent Adam's apple connects his head to the bulky shoulders below.
Thick shoulders stretch down into larger arms, ending in hands that are equally as big. His fingers are thick and rough to the touch, usually covered up by the uniform gloves or by bandages if he's boxing. His chest is also quite bulky, and toned with muscle down his stomach. His legs are long and thick, covered in darker hair that stands out amongst the paler skin of his legs. Well-arced feet finish off his body, stubby toes poking out at the end. Boots typically cover his feet at all times; he doesn't particularly like to be bare footed. Most notable are the various markings on his upper thigh, almost always covered with pants or with his uniform so as to keep eyes away. Needle marks line a lot of the skin, with the left thigh having the most recent marks.
what you areJericho has never really been a very courteous person. He doesn't often give people a chance, typically relying on first impressions as much as possible. He's pessimistic, seeing the worst in everything that he witnesses in life. Really, Jericho Shaw doesn't have the most confident view in the human race as a whole. The best way to put it is that he is angry with the world because of the hand that has been dealt to him. At the end of the day though, his hatred is primarily directed towards himself.
Violent is another way to describe him. He's brutal, not particularly caring about the consequences of most of his actions. He was a trained Career; it was simply in his blood. The way he was raised was to get what he wanted with force, and he would have been perfectly prepared to be in the Games for that very reason. It was another reason for his choice to join the Keeper mission, knowing full well that his attitude would be appreciated. Jericho tends to act first and think later. He's not exactly unintelligent, actually being fairly capable of forming well developed thoughts; Shaw just doesn't care to think in case it becomes too late to act.
Ever since a young age, he has been a fighter. Against everything he has had to face, really. The way his father raised him was to fight until he couldn't stand any longer and so he puts that into everything that he does. There's a part of Jericho that is afraid of what would happen should he stop fighting. And yet most of the time he ends up fighting himself. There's an uncomfortable feeling he always has, as if he doesn't feel right in his skin. Raised with the opinion that he is nothing but a disappointment, Jericho sees nothing but failure when he looks into the mirror. It haunts him every day, and he has a sort of hatred for himself that is stronger than anything else he knows.
Jericho struggles with his sexuality. Whilst it may not be a problem in other parts of Panem, he personally has a belief, as ingrained by his father, that being a rough and tough Career means being strictly heterosexual. This has branched out to being a Keeper as well, and so he is fearful to come to terms with the fact that he is indeed bisexual. There's a part of him that hides from that identity, and he almost certainly gets angry when accused of being into men. And yet he, more often than not, finds himself far more attracted to men than to women. Which tends to lead to a lonely life as he avoids what he so clearly wants in life. He does, in fact, keep to himself most of the time because of a mixture of his abrasive personality and his denial of what really is inside.
Ever since a young age, Jericho has always had an addictive personality. When he finds something he enjoys, he can't help but continue to want to use it again and again. As most people would. The issue with Jericho is that he is unable to realize when enough is enough, continuing despite the negatives that may come out of it. And when he fell into drugs, his life massively turned upside down. He began to become dependent on the mixture of uppers and downers to regulate his moods. When he woke in the morning, he'd typically mix a glass of expensive whiskey with a pill or two to get on with his day; at night he would find his injection of choice to separate him from reality for a bit. It has become habit, by this point, a habit he won't so easily shake.
what you rememberChildbirth was too much for Caroline Shaw to handle, and she passed away shortly after. Luckily for Jericho, the doctors committed all of their efforts and attentions to ensuring that he remained healthy and alive; they clearly succeeded. And so Jericho was left to be raised by his father, Alan Shaw. Whilst some kids end up perfectly fine being raised by one parent, Jericho almost immediately found difficulty in it. Having only a male influence on his life grew rather tiresome rather quickly, and it became more and more evident as the years went by.
Alan, still reeling from the death of his wife and lover and also dealing with a young child who didn't particularly listen, turned to drinking quite quickly. He never drank in excess for the first few years, but it was clear right from the get-go what how he responded while drinking. For many years, Alan was abusive to Jericho, growing worse and worse as he stepped closer and closer to becoming a man. His father pushed him to be better for a good reason; he wanted nothing more than to see his son make something of his life, unlike his father. Unfortunately his methods weren't as sound, and it took its toll on his son rather quickly.
He began to resent his father, often doing things out of spite. He would spend hours and hours in the training centers to avoid going home to an angry father, working with the hopes of getting Reaped one day. If he were so lucky, he could get out of the reach of his father and actually truly amount to something beyond being the son that killed his mother and fought constantly with his dad. There was a time when his father grew ill and so the abuse stopped, but Jericho had been pushed far too far away by that point. Even despite attempts to make amends and to explain just how proud he truly was, Alan and Jericho fell out of contact with each other when Jericho became old enough to work the mines. He would spend all his days there and then spend the nights in the center. Seeing his father became a rarity, even though he had begun to become a better person.
At the age of eighteen, Jericho knew it was his final year to be eligible for the Games and so he committed a lot of his life to being prepared. It lead him to an underground fighting ring; win a fight and you'd get paid. He was unsurprisingly good, making far more money than he could ever expect. And yet he wasn't reaped, as he wished, and instead found himself with nothing but a father he hated, money he had nothing to do with, and a life he wished to be different.
He fell into drugs rather soon thereafter, moving into his own small house nearby the Training Center where he spent most of his time. His life had a year of going downhill before he realized there was still so much he could do to change around his life; he spent the next two years training to be a Keeper for the Capitol. By the age of 21, Jericho was a full fledged Keeper, assigned primarily to District Two. Despite the many attempts from his father to reach out and bridge that gap once again, he ignored him and continued about his way. The lifestyle was fitting for Jericho, and he wanted nothing to get in his way towards being a different person. He'd fight every day to change things up.
