Juniper Allerdyce
Female - 13 Years
Juniper tipped the bottle of water up and drank until it was half-empty. She'd only been running for half an hour or so but it was hot today and she was already exhausted. A glistening layer of sweat coated her skin. She knew sweating was the body's way of cooling itself, but on days like today when the air was thick with moisture, it only seemed to make her feel worse.
With a sigh, Juniper collapsed onto the ground and drew her knees up to her chest. She leaned back against the brick wall of an empty shop that had definitely seen better days. The broken windows and destroyed interior made it hard to tell, but Juniper thought it might have once been a grocery shop. Most of the shops on this street were abandoned. It felt eerie, like a ghost-town, even though no more than a mile away the streets were constantly busy. In the last three years, since Juniper started running as a hobby, she'd learned where the quietest and the most crowded areas of the District were. Busy places were no use; the second you got any amount of speed up, you'd crash into someone and earn yourself an earful of profanity. As creepy as she though these empty streets were, there was nowhere better.
The sun beat down against the concrete, and even in the shade of the ruined grocery shop Juniper could have sworn she was about to melt. The humidity had allowed her dark brown hair to escape from her two braids in single strands, but Juniper didn't really care. She was used to her hair being a mess; it was untameable.
