Caspian sat at the edge of the water, staring out into the distance, watching the waves roll in. His eyes are glazed over; he's been staring into space for over an hour now. He was supposed to be working, but that wasn't happening today. It wasn't that Caspian didn't want to fish. He had just got hit with emotion. He saw a couple of young boys, about five or six years old, building a raft. Not to escape, like Caspian's family had done, but to play. But, of course, this caused Caspian to have flashbacks.
Caspian's father was taken off a raft by the Capitol when Caspian was only twelve-years-old. He definitely didn't forget about it. He thought about his father almost every day. Where was he now? Was he turned into an Avox? Was he killed? Nobody knew. All that the people of the District knew was that he was taken by the Capitol, and that nobody would ever see him again.
Caspian took a deep breath and forced himself back into reality. If he continued to sit and do nothing, a Peacekeeper was bound to punish him, and that would definitely not be good. He stood up slowly, stretching out his back, before grabbing his fishing net. He walked into the water with his net over his shoulder, ignoring the goosebumps crawling up his body; it was hot outside, so the water seemed to freeze Caspian's burning skin. Once the water got up to his knees, Caspian put his net in the water, holding onto the ends of both sides, so that it didn't get taken away by the water.
After about twenty minutes of waiting for fish, Caspian lifted his net, and looked at it. He sighed loudly when there were no fish; him and his mother were going to have a small dinner tonight. He walked out of the water and knelt down on the sand, burying his face in his hands. His mother was basically an empty shell, since her husband was taken. Caspian would be the same way, if he didn't have to support his mother. Fortunately, Caspian did well enough at his job to keep himself out of signing up for tesserae, so this year, Caspian will only have his name in the Reaping five times, as opposed to the less-wealthy kids his age being entered twenty times.
He took a breath and stood up again, and he noticed somebody standing directly in front of him, looking at him. "Uh...what do you want?" Caspian asked.
