Her brother is a lumberjack, who spends all day working in the woods with her father. Wolfsbane's mother works as an apothecary, and she spends most of her time after school helping her organize medicines. Someday, Wolfsbane is to inherit the shop, and the little apartment on top of it.

One of her favorite things to do is exploring the forest in the early mornings, before any of the Peacekeepers or workers arrive. Her mother sends her on errands to collect medicinal plants along the creek, which she carries in a hand-made wicker basket back to her house. She's never allowed to go alone on these errands; her older brother will come with her, to make sure nothing happens to her. Even though Wolfsbane insists that she's growing up now, since her name is officially in the Reaping bowl, her parents remain overprotective.

She doesn't see it, but she isn't quite mature enough to be allowed to go off on her own. Wolfsbane still fears the dark, and believes that her teddy bear, Bert, wards off monsters at night as she sleeps. She wanders too far, to the point that her brother has to catch her by the arm and remind her to pay attention.
