REGALIA STROMSTATT
Regalia hadn't meant to make friends with every citizen of District Ten, but she hadn't expressly decided against it, either. So, naturally, she found herself making new acquaintances at every turn. First there were the ranchers who had come looking or Mace but found her instead. Then, there was Oscar, who was still more of a puzzle than a friend. And now she found herself watching the steady walk of an apparently lost blind man.
One might wonder at the impossibility of determining if a blind man was lost, but Regalia felt certain he was from a moment of casual observation. It was the way he walked, a few steps and a pause, the way he turned his head, as though to listen to something that wasn't there. Perhaps she should have immediately offered her aid, but instead she hung back beneath the sweet shop's awning, watching him and wondering if she said anything if she would be fulfilling the insult Mace had thrown at her.
You always try too hard. You can't force people to like you, Reggie. Ain't right, manipulatin' everyone.
She held to her shadow and memory until she couldn't stand it, until the urge to just say HELLO almost ripped her in two. She stepped into the street, falling into shambling step beside the man.
"Hi - hi? Hi, yes, I couldn't help but notice that you're wearing a brown and a green sock and I wondered if you might want to find the tailor's shop? He can dye basics, nothing too complicated, but I had an apron in the same forest green dyed by him last year. I can definitely recommend him. Oh, I'm here, I'm Regalia." All of this took about two seconds to say, as she put her hand on his shoulder. "Really nice to meet you, Mr...?"
