Why I am NOT glad I was born in the Capitol: by Zoei Lindigo.
1. Privileges. It's simple here, easy. Everything comes tied up in a box with a nifty little bow on top. There's money down gutters and down a sofa that allows for us to do that. And inside that box, are more riches than anyone in a district can afford in their lifetime. I'm rich and always have been - but I'm not happy. Why? Because whether it's a necklace of pearls or sapphires brighter than the sky on a summer day: the little things here are more than they'll ever have.
2. Experiences. There's many things that a person in a district gets to feel that we don't. We want them and take their emotions for granted, but beyond that television screen, there is a real person who is showing their raw emotions to the world. We don't have that here: streets are walked by people who don't apologise when they bump into you and dogs are trained by people who don't care you've got an allergy. There's no care for one another in this city and people don't think twice.
3. Cleanliness. It's a part of our everyday routine here in the city, but wouldn't you like to know what it's like to experience being unclean? The thought seems alien and part of another world. I want to feel mud on my face and I want to have jeans stained with a grassy green but I don't want that lethal look from a fashionista when I walk down the street.
Even if I did smear mud on my face, the excessively clean hair and face made dry by concealer and lipstick would make it obvious that I belong.
And for an adult on the edge of society, that in itself is a strange feeling.{293}
