A simple nudge from a Peace Keeper is all it takes to peel Kirito away from the screen he was watching. As Kirito was expecting the careers looked as impressive as ever with each of the males volunteering. Thankfully though Kirito knew Harbinger and Annora wouldn't have to face nine careers like he had. Yet six of course was still just as dangerous to go up against. Kirito had his work cut out for him, but he would never give up on them. Harbinger and Annora, he was determined to see one of them with a crown placed firmly upon their heads.

The ride to the shimmering silver train was one Kirito remembered all too well. The fear and angst were not nearly as horrible as last time but the stress was ten times worse. All around them were hopeful citizens of the District cheering and wishing good luck to them. The District had become so use to victory it made Kirito even more worried that they would soon remember what defeat tasted like.

As the door to the train slid silently shut Kirito made his way past the food and drinks that had sent shrills through his body during his first ride. Now he sat as calmly as he could in a blue arm chair across from a couch. Katelyn would be joining them soon but Kirito figured it was time to get to know just who Annora and Harbinger were. It was time for him to learn who he was trying to save.

"Go ahead and have whatever you would like, but be warned the food is rather rich so don't over eat or else you might be seeing it again sooner than you would like." As Kirito watched them he felt his feet shifting in hopes that Katelyn would arrive shortly as well to assist him. She was after all the one who had brought him home. "So I figured I should avoid beating around the bush and just ask you both these questions. How are your mind sets? Would you like to start discussing the games now or wait a little longer? I know it can be tougher for some tributes than others so don't feel bad if you need more time."

There is a Key to every gate and every exit,

KATELYN PERSIMMON

There were a couple familiar names that cropped up in the reapings. Relatives of past tribs. Thankfully, Marc's brother was not among them. But Colgate's younger sister was, and generally speaking, being the sibling of a victor was unhealthy. Perhaps she'd try to reach out to him, he was one of the few victors she had talked with at all. The boy from seven looked fairly familiar too, and after awhile she decided that he had been one of the people that had accosted her during her victory tour. A friend of Margaret. She glanced at the papers in her hands.

She had skimmed the files, much as she had Kirito's last year; Anorra's file was all kinds of fucked up. She was from the bad part of town, the part where the streets were just that much grimier, where the peacekeepers turned a blind eye to the savagery because they were too often a part of it. When she was ten her parents and older brother had all vanished, a suspected triple homicide though the case had been a dead end. The past few years she had been...

Katelyn closed the file, not wanting to read more. However, now she thought she knew where she had seen the girl before; A few times Katelyn had seen her waiting outside the cherry orchard her father managed and chatting people up once the work hours were over. It explained a lot. As for Harbinger, well, she knew his last name well enough. She had sent his family some desserts a few years ago when Crusader had died. The year before she herself went to the arena. She couldn't fathom what it was like, knowing that you were headed for the same place your brother had died in, and she was kinda glad she was an only child.

She wasn't the same teenager she had been two years ago. Actually, she supposed that she was a young woman now. Nineteen. She had filled out some, in no small part to the increased amount of food that Kirito and her had won for the district. No longer was she a stick. She had a full, womanly figure. Her skin and hair were healthier, and the tattoos that covered her arms and torso stood out all the more for it. Mentally, she wondered if she was anymore mature. After getting on the train, she had retired to her room to and in fact, had hardly interacted with the tributes up to this point. She had told herself she'd never be afraid of anything again, and she figured she could stare death in the face without blinking.

But could she look a family in the eyes and tell them she was sorry for being unable to bring their loved one home? The thought unsettled her. Last year, she had brought Kirito home. But...with the quell rules, there had only been one tribute for her to worry about. Now there was two, at least one of which was guaranteed to die in the arena. It got her to thinking about the district as a whole. Her victory had been unprecedented; Kirito's more so. In two years, district eleven had had more fame and fortune lavished upon it than in the past twenty. She wondered if the district was prepared for the possibility of that high note coming to an end. But of course, she desperately wanted to keep in going. No district had ever had three consecutive victors. Not even the careers. As it was, Katelyn had barely slept in the past three days, and it showed.

Finally, she put the files away and dragged herself out of her room, heading to the cart with the food with a hastily grabbed paper bag. She had to do her best, no, better than she had the previous year. She saw the way that people looked at her. The first district eleven victor in decades. Not only had she won, she had mentored another tribute into becoming the second victor in as many years. She was an icon. A legend. The lamb with the heart of the lion. The queen of the ice castle. Kids of tribute age had a tendency to look at her in awe. She knew she was up on a pedestal in the public eye. It was a question of what would knock her off of it. She entered the food car and caught a glimpse of herself in the window.

What stared back was imposing. A full figured young woman with a half formed scowl on her face, fit and trim from her workout regimen, clad in a pair of tight jeans and a crop top that showed off her lean muscles as well as her tattoos. The names of all the tributes that had died in her games, available for anyone to read, the ink being the only thing darker than the circles under her eyes. Her once mentee and now fellow mentor had already been talking to them, she caught the tail end of what he had been saying about the games. Then she added to it, staring at the boy that was nearly a foot taller than her, and the brunette that was almost her height.

"I...baked a couple of frosted cupcakes for you two. I know that the food cart can be a bit daunting, and its nice to have a taste of home. There's vanilla, strawberry, triple chocolate... a few other to pick from." She grabbed a seat and faced the pair of tributes. "Concerning what my partner here said, I think it'd be best if you figured whether or not you want to talk about the games fast. Every second not spent strategizing is another second wasted. The hard truth is no matter how much we help you both, one of you isn't coming back for sure. Didn't have that problem with last years quell, it was just him," she said, jerking her head towards Kirito.

"In spite of that, we want to help you both. But before we can do that, we need to know what we're working with."

Harbinger Rhodes

I've always wondered what it was like outside the district, but this wasn't how I wanted to find out. I never wanted to explore the districts and Capitol from the view of a tribute. Yet here I am seated next to two victors. Katelyn and Kirito. They won back to back. Both of them right after his games. My heart aches thinking about him. He had a heart of gold, and it got the best of him. It's hard to think about. Surprisingly Kate walks in with some cupcakes as they both start asking about the games. And the harsh truth escapes her lips. At least one of us would never see the district again. My stomach twists into knots, but I take a cupcake. Maybe it'll relax me.

The cupcake tastes better than I could imagine. My heart starts to beat faster. Like it recognizes the meaning of the cupcake. I remember when Crusader died. Katelyn sent baked goods to my family. Seeing them here now only serves as a reminder that my brother died. The cupcakes act as though my family has received them not I. They serve as a beacon of death for me. I don't want to die, yet it's going to happen, and nobody can save me, yet the reality of it hasn't truly set in. Kirito and Katelyn reminding me that only one will make it back further drives that point home. I will die and there's nothing I can do about it. Its how I die and who I die for. Crusader fought well. He protected his allies, but soon they were gone, and then he was gone. I take a deep breath before turning towards them trying to remain strong.

"I think Kirito here knows exactly what I want to do. I'll fill you in Katelyn. What I want you and Kirito to do is focus your efforts on saving Annora. These cupcakes here? They remind me of how my brother didn't stand a chance with his heart of gold. How can I be selfish and ask someone else die so that I may live." In a way, I've accepted my death. I know I will die. And with that all I can do is try my best to make sure Annora makes it home alive. I'll return home like I told Elidor I would, but I won't be talking to him. I won't see him. No, I'll be in the box. One of the same boxes Crusader came home in.
