kirito
victor of the 70th hunger games
Even with the reassurance of the fact that death was no longer looming just around the corner, Kirito could not find sleep. At first he blamed that the room must have been the thing that sent tormentations into the crevices of his mind. However, as he sat with his sleep deprived eyes burning bright and wide in the pale midnight moonlight he could not find the ease of sleep in the living room either. Everywhere he looked and every sound he heard just sent him coiling back into the clutches of the Quell. For Ripred's sake even as he sat here now he could swear that Lily's laughs were bouncing through the walls and drilling holes deep into his skull.
Warmth skimmed the tips of Kirito's nails as they dug lightly into his head. Beside him Circe's touch was not enough to soothe his troubled soul. She always was so much stronger than him anyway. Just because her pin was clipped firmly to his chest did not mean he had the heart she did. Out of everything in the arena Circe Lyon was the purest gold there was. However, Kirito knew that wasn't all true since there was another gem that glimmered just as brightly but in her own unique way.
The phantom touch of Rhyme on his other side brought his hands slowly back down into his black jeans. Below him the cool tile floor glimmered with just the reflection of himself yet he knew they were both right beside him. They are mine and mine alone. The phrase once again scuttled through Kirito's thoughts as suddenly he noticed Rhyme walking towards the elevator with an inviting hand. Yet before Kirito dared to follow he shot a concerned glance over to Circe who simply kissed him lightly as she placed her hand on her pin. "I know, you are always here with me." Then with a nod she vanished back into the shadows as Kirito's feet hastily led him into the elevator.
As Kirito's body swayed he noticed the small digital clock against the glass pane elevator. One thirty seven in the god damn morning and he found himself being pulled down to the Training Station by a girl lost in the music of death. Still though Kirito had to admit his curiosity was ripping away at his mind. What could Rhyme's purpose be in dragging him all the way back to the training center?
Kirito's question's soon became answered as Rhyme left him standing alone in the bitter silence but by the throwing knife station. Sorrow swept through Kirito's body as he slowly crumpled to the ground and let his hand run against the smooth tile flooring. Just one year earlier he sat here with vomit on the ground in complete fear when her hand had reached him. When Rhyme Morales from District One of all places actually chose to care about him. It was in that moment Kirito realized he wasn't as alone as he believed.
Even now as glistening tears ran in soft streams down his sodden cheeks he realized he wasn't alone. All around him the training center was alive and thriving with commotion. Deafening darkness was transformed in total chaos as Circe's fingers clenched onto his neck like vipers. As Kirito trembled in the shadow of Orion Hammerfell. As he and Olivia contested one another for the first time while vying over the clear attention of Rhyme. They were all still here, each and everyone of them were all still locked away here in the prism of Kirito's memories. It just took him some time to let them come back into his eyes since leaving District Eleven.
Letting out a stiff cough Kirito's hands rubbed away the pungent tears as he found himself back on his feet. However, for the first time an unusual thought drifted through his mind as he walked down the hall briefly and into a nearby bar for the mentors. Kirito needed a damn drink. Hell he didn't want a heavy one but just a quick mixer would help him subside the emotions that whipped away at his heart. Still though as the flaming liquid seared Kirito's throat he spotted Key against the wall with her own bottle in hand and with a grin Kirito lifted his glass in a toast and took another swig.
Eventually the still some how sobered Victor pulled himself and his drink back out into the training center. Once again everything danced and busted with live as he dodged Sue's eyes there or a stray knife thrown by Imp here. Before Kirito knew what had really happened he found himself seated firmly atop one of the climbing walls that over looked the whole gymnasium. Yet then everything changed as the lights faded back into the eerieness of night. At first Kirito was rather distressed until he noticed the girl down below who had yet to realize his presence. Still Kirito couldn't help but call out to the very girl who now stood in Rhyme's old place.
"You know, you remind me a lot about her."
