The girl watches, from a few feet away as the house burnt, a lighter in one hand, an empty can in the other, the last few drops of oliy fuel fall to the ground at her feet: harmless. Reflected within her deep blue eyes the flames dance, eating at the wood. They consume it, greedy fingers never having enough, not until the whole building would be destroyed. As it climbs it begins to wipe the sky clear of stars, the winking lights hidden behind the layer of destruction. Once when the girl was much younger she had watched the home of ants being burnt. She had begged for the boy with the glass to stop as he targeted his destructive burning light at the small vulnerable home of the insects but he had only held the wailing girl back, a wicked grin on his lips. 'Its for the best' he whispered over and over and over again. Until it was over. Until the home and the small bodies of the insects no longer withered in pain on the dry earth, but were deadly still. Life no longer existed to them, and it was that memory that burnt through her memory now as she watched the house burn. "its for the best." But once agin all she could think, would think, was that it was all for the best, but also on the tip of her tongue the words 'you deserved it' danced, waiting ever so patiently to slip from their perch and into the night air, joining the fire as it raged on, flames dancing with victory as the roof fell, to weak to beat the almightly beast she had unleashed. |
