district three male // 71st games
Leo Everitt felt naked. It wasn't because he was as he still had the uniform stuck to his body with a thin layer of sweat. It wasn't because he had nothing underneath the kilt and kept feeling the breeze lingering around his private areas. At the end of the day it was because Leonidas Cadogan Everitt, the experimental physicist from District Three, the young boy with a brain far too big for his head, the thoughtful mind that never stepped outside of his comfort zone, had no arm. And that was strange.
He did his absolute best to patch it up, knowing full well that it wasn't a fantastic job and it wouldn't be enough. He'd likely have to deal with infection if he was lasting in the arena for a long time. I can only hope these Games go by quick so I can get the medicine I need. Jack did her best to alleviate some of the blood and gore from his newly made stump, but nothing could stop it from being exactly that: a stump where a limb used to be.
And then the pain hit. Leo was used to pain, though more in the way of a cramped hand after writing for too long or the pain you feel when you go thirty lines into an equation and realize you used an incorrect constant. This pain was like nothing he had ever witnessed before. For a moment, he was sure he would pass out. But he didn't. I'm actually quite proud of myself. This arena is actually making me toughen up.
All that stuck in his mind as he lay against a tree, awaiting for Jack to return, was the violence he had just been a part of. It was horrible to bring back the memories of all the deep wounds and bloody weapons, and yet he kept thinking of it whenever his mind lingered for too long. No matter what he did, Leo couldn't get the darkness he had seen today to leave his comfort zone. And it's all around me. Without Odile, they were down to a twosome and without an arm, his chances of survival were dropping drastically.
It wasn't until the silver packet fell from the sky that he got it from his mind. And when his brain processed what he was looking at, his mood lit up drastically. The med kit seemed to shine back at him with a light suggesting it was nothing short of a miracle, and that some insanely wonderful people had his back. I've gotta assume it's because of my stunningly good looks. It didn't take long for him to patch himself up a little more, biting deep into his lip as he pulled the needle and thread through the open wound. When he finished up, he looked to his leg and saw the oddly coloured scar that stretched down where the blade had traveled in the fight, only to be protected by the little lion cub. I won't forget you, bud.
The day passed rather quickly, with most of it spent dealing with his needs. Fill some water from the stream into the tea kettle, putting the sponsored iodine tablet in and sipping from it slowly to quench his thirst. He filled it back up once finished, securing it in his sporran for later if needed.
And yet the real test was later in the day as the sun began its descent to the horizon. With careful eyes, Leo scanned the area for any prey that he could get the jump on, looking for anything to distract him from missing an arm and being surrounded by death. As if those are things that could be forgotten. And then he spotted it; and then he lunged.
