Name:
Naomi Coleman
Age:
16
Gender:
Female
District/Area:
12
Appearance:
(Samantha Logan)
When they describe the apothecary’s daughter, the first thing they mention is her looks. First, her skin, the color of brown sugar much like many others that live in the poorer areas of the poorest district. Next, her eyes, a dark chocolate brown with a warmth behind them that immediately puts any who stare into the girl’s gaze at ease. Then, her hair, waist length and black as the darkest bits of coal dug up from the mines, yet soft as the smoothest fabric.
They also mention that she’s a fairly average girl in terms of size, standing at five feet five inches and weighing just over one hundred and ten pounds. How, despite her parents’ job in the medicine industry, she always looks like she’s barely eating enough to get by. How the very way she looks causes her great turmoil, as the fact that she sports the darker skin and smaller looks of the Seam leaves her constantly teased and excluded by kids who live in wealthier parts of the district. How one of her biggest wishes, though she rarely admits it out loud, is to have the lighter skin and physical features of the richer folk, if only to fit in and feel more accepted as a whole.
Personality:
When describing her personality, the first thing they go to is her kindness. Perhaps it is because of her humble lifestyle, her upbringing as a child of medicine, or simply just the way she is as a person, but the apothecary’s daughter is known as one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring kids in the District. Never to turn a blind eye to one in need, she somehow manages to achieve this despite her hardships.
The second thing talked about is her endurance. How the small, slim girl from the Seam manages to shrug off burdens such as being bullied, living in relative poverty, and, to a certain extent, death and disease. How whenever she gets knocked down, physically or mentally, she simply grits her teeth and gets right back up. No matter what happens, it seems that nothing can break her. Somehow Naomi Coleman still stands, as steady and strong as a brick wall.
The third thing is how the girl doesn’t seem to fit into either of the two social personality types. Indeed, it seems to flip flop back and forth so often that she’s most commonly described as an “introvert with some traits of an extrovert.” She doesn’t hesitate to interject herself into critical situations, such as when someone has gotten hurt (and she’s able to use her limited medical knowledge) or when someone needs emotional support (both of her shoulders have been cried upon multiple times). Yet it seems that in every other situation, she usually shies away from social interaction, although one is never certain if she prefers it that way or not.
History:
Rumor has it that Naomi Coleman was born on a snowy midwinter’s day to the Seam’s secondary medical specialists, the apothecaries. Unlike the actual trained doctor living on the other side of town, her parents’ business was mainly for illness related matters and minor wounds, although every now and then the occasional serious case would drop by. Naomi’s early childhood was as a result spent around her parents as they worked, time which greatly influenced her later childhood and teens.
As she grew older, Naomi started taking a more active role in her parent’s business, eventually learning the uses of various herbs and other drugs by the time she reached her early teens. She also maintained an education, getting the best she could in District Twelve, yet her social life was often non-existent. Various acquaintances came and went, but none really stuck with the dark skinned girl from the Seam.
As the only child of her family, Naomi’s life often is a lonely one. However, as a result, she has developed a close relationship with both of her parents that still stands even in her sixteenth year. Throughout the years, she often interacted with various apprentices that her parents took on, often befriending them. She is inexperienced but not uncorrupted by the many wonders of the world, as she is still a teenage girl in a small high school. Although the threat of the Games are ever present over her head, Naomi Coleman still stands strong.
