It was one pm and the classroom was buzzing with discussion as students filed in from lunch and headed to their workstations. Of the classes she had, this one, the computer algorithms class was her favorite; it almost made up for the boring History of Panem classes they all had to sit through on the same day. That class was so repetitive, and it wasn't like anything they learned there would be useful for their futures in the factories and offices of District Three.
As Penelope entered the classroom, she noticed to her dismay that there was two boys who'd partnered up already and were now occupying her favorite spot. Must have been working here during lunch. I wonder what they were doing. She didn't have to wonder long, however, before one of them stood up, pointing vehemently at the screen.
"And I'm telling you your analysis is wrong! Don't you remember what's-his-face in the 68th?!"
Games talk. Of course. Every year, District Three had their fair share of people who would tabulate the Games in spreadsheets and attempt to figure out exactly why the Victors won. Not that it ever translated to results - they hadn't had a Victor in ten years, and nobody knew where the one Victor they did have was at anymore. We're all required to watch them and see Three turning into the new laughingstock of the more physically-oriented districts.
In spite of that, Penelope was rather proud of her District and how it was known as the brains of Panem. Although the way those two are acting, you'd think they were the District Three version of the Careers. I prefer not to think about the Games too much. Sighing, she picked up her bag and headed to the other side of the room, sitting down at the farthest computer and beginning to set herself up. She was halfway through before feeling the presence of someone else standing behind her, and she turned around in surprise, racking her brain for her classmate's name.
"Oh, hey."
