Golden laced rays of dusk were just beginning to dip beneath the devouring surface of the horizon as the veil of night shuffled slowly across the factory. A long whistle pierced through the wall of work as sounds of happiness bubbled and sprung up from beneath the pool of oil covered workers. Yet as their happiness spiraled and swirled like feathers on a euphonious breeze the chains of loneliness only grew stronger as they stayed firmly shackled to the shadow of Orion. All in due time silence would roll over the factory like an eerie mist leaving just the straying songs of Orion's pencil to fill the hungry air. By far Orion was the youngest, but by far he stayed the latest and worked until exhaustion devoured his determination whole to leave him as nothing more than a pile of putrid muscle mass.
A loud bang roared and echoed across the now solely occupied space as the final of the men closed the doors for the evening. A sigh found its way out of Orion's thinly pursed lips as the scribbles on his notebook began to form the picture he desired. Visions were the only things Orion had to keep him company during his work. Never once was he called for. Never once was he worried about. Never once did anyone care. Yet never once did Orion himself care at all. In fact, he sort of loved it.
All of his life Orion had spent inventing and now he was given everything he needed for his dreams to shine through the meek smoke of society, and shine they had. Already in his few short years of working as the factory's head designed/inventor Orion had helped created ten major inventions along with six small appliances. Currently though he was working on his biggest challenge yet, one ordered straight from the Capitol to him. Needless to say Orion did not hesitate to accept the request and instantly get to work. However he couldn't help but hope that the workers had constructed it correctly considering the blue prints Orion had created were rather intensive with their details.
Impulsion drew Orion to rise from his desk in his secluded office and to walk out into the night filled expanse of the factory. Just as Orion expected he was the final person left in the building just as he always was, he had learned to enjoy the silence though. So as his feet sent pangs of echoes dancing through the darkness the spun around him on all sides he grew closer and closer to his machine. Then he finally let his steps cease and their dance fade off back into the mysterious star light night.
The moon's pale beams sprawled across the finely cut steel as the machine in its entirety stood elegantly before him. Orion could feel his heart thundering as his hands ran across the chilling metal. In Orion's opinion the device had turned out even more spectacular than his mind could have possibly conceived. Every single piece placed perfectly and every single area marked just as he had written out on the prints. Orion had to hand it to the group who had put this monster together, they really had outdone themselves this time.
A frost kissed breeze sent Orion's long hair scuttling across his face as his gaze lifted towards the glass windowed ceiling far above his reach. All across the black canvas the stars twinkled and flared as signals of far off hope and of life. For as long as Orion could remember there had always been a thought lost in the confusion of reality that alluded any answer. Could himself and all of humanity truly be alone in the vast system of space? Could they all just be the only microscopic spec that was filled with beating hearts and untapped innovation? For the sake of logic Orion had to say no, but the fear of it being true was always there.
Clashing metal filled Orion's ears as his head swiftly jolted and his body spun shortly after. The sound of a falling wrench was one Orion knew very well along with the fact that wrenches are not the kind of objects to just randomly succumb to the seductions of gravity. Which could only point to one thing, he was no longer the single occupant of this building which only caused fear to spread through Orion's mind like a plague. However as the seconds past Orion began to see a body shifting through the shadows and with a firm shout he called out to the stranger of the night.
"Alright I know you are there just come out already. I don't know who you are but I really hope you don't plan to do anything malicious tonight since I am sure that would ruin my night quite quickly along with your's."
