W aves crashed like demons across the obsidian beach now tainted with the scarlet silk of blood. Cries of battle hissed within the salt swarmed air. Determination for survival pulsed out of every tribute just like the blood pouring from their wounds. Like savage beasts they fought and clashed like the waves behind them. Amidst the monstrosities and their tarnished lives Ruth fought through the scourge. Apollo's light exploded from her moves as the wings of an angel christened her back. Through the depriving mass of hellish warriors she rose like a queen among those far less superior to her grace. From many miles across the vast world the shouts of her District arose into a climax. However no amount of hollering or cursing would stop the devil's cloud from claiming who it demanded.Within the crowd of blood thirsty District One Denizens Lullaby strained her eyes upon the valiant outline of her sister. Pride had been coursing through Lullaby's veins since the moment Ruth had mounted the paramount of the stage on Reaping Day. Even as Ruth pushed through the gleam and glitter of the glossy Capitol Lullaby only held her sister to the highest degree possible. Then by the time Ruth stood in the music of harp facing Ripred's chosen judgement day she risen to a level no others could even see. Over the next week this feeling of pride would only crescendo into one of full respect for Lullaby's elder. Yet on this day of the one week mark for Ruth's crucible Lullaby felt an uneasy shift in the way Ruth was conducting her technique. With every passing second Lullaby found herself noticing more and more of Ruth's reactions faltering slowly behind her average. Anger began to bloom like a black rose in Lullaby's quaking heart as she watched the boy from Five's flame riddled sword rip across Ruth's body. One thought ran rampant through Lullaby's troubled mind as the onslaught of Ruth's enemies continued with the girl from Seven's just as deadly opening strike. "Wake the hell up Ruth!" Lullaby screamed through the murmurs within the din of the crowd. "What kind of Career lets themselves get hit like that! Certainly not you!" Lullaby screamed again as she pushed off the hands of her fellow Foster children. Anger was something Lullaby was normally afflicted with but the rage she felt exposing itself within her body was unlike anything she had felt before. Even now at just the beginning of the fight Lullaby knew what she was watching. She knew right from the very start she was experiencing the fall of a Goddess from the Gates Of Olympus. Denial began to pick its way through Lullaby's shuddering soul as the rain of blood from Ruth's body only continued. All through their life together Ruth and Lullaby had pushed one another to be the most supreme careers they could be. Yet now in the time when it mattered the most Ruth appeared to be letting Lullaby's harassment slip from the caves of her consciousness. However, Lullaby knew Ruth was better than what she was witnessing, Lullaby knew somehow, someway Ruth was going to win. She was fucking Ruthless after all, a title not so easily achieved. Blood erupted from Ruth's neck as the girl from Seven once again found Ruth sipping from the gauntlet of death. Panic gripped tightly onto Lullaby's throat with the strength of a king cobra. Commands surged through Lullaby's head for Ruth to do but all of them fell short upon Lullaby's tongue. Instead pathetic squeals of the word, stop, leaped forth from Lullaby's tightly clenched lips. Memories of a freezing winter's day sent chills bounding down Lullaby's spine in only a mere seconds. The sobs of a younger version of herself shook her body vicious upon the cold steps of the justice building. Then from through the mists of abandonment came the voice of compassion. In the form of a younger Ruth the girl wrapped the young Lullaby in her arms. From this tightly bonded warm embrace emerged two sisters not of blood but of pure love. Then the warmth vanished. A screech of pain and disbelief seared out of Lullaby's practically mute mouth. Ruth's canon shattered Lullaby's ribs as the gravity of death sent her straight to the ground. Tears welled within the confines of Lullaby's eyes but she refused fall. If Ruth knew you were crying she would beat you upside the head, Lullaby thought to herself as she heard the wails of her fellow comrades easing into the storm filled air. Weakness caused Lullaby's knees to shake as she slowly rose back to her feet with the help of a nearby wall. Pain rippled through her body not from a wound, but from the lack of her heart. In only a blink of the eye Lullaby had lost the one thing that kept her humanity lit. So as the darkness of fate closed its wings around Lullaby she turned her face towards the shadow and let her voice whisper softly into her new night. "Well Ruth, you made me proud just like you said you would. But dying wasn't suppose to be part of the plan." |
