Devastation devours my body like some kind of vicious plague. I can feel it churning within my tainted blood like a catalyst for evil itself. I can feel my body trembling but I know its not because of the cold that is falling over my body like a blanket. No, my body was shaking because of the cold that had swept over her body. Of all the people I had sworn to protect she was my biggest failure even now on the apex of glory I could feel the bitter taste of her death smeared within the arena's air.
Time itself was seeming to slip from my grasp as well as the day slipped like sand through my fingers. Without her by my side I felt an emptiness that could not be filled by another soul. It was from this suffocating loneliness I found the new strength to drive my beating heart. I found the strength to pull onward for her. For her I would reap any soul and send them cascading to the dark reaches of damnation. Even in her absence she lifted me to be better, and I believe that is why I truly love her.
Lights begin to intertwine with the triumphant music of a blood frenzied Capitol as the Anthem blared across the sky. Once again I feel the warmth leave my shriveling body as Ruth shimmered like an angel in the sky. However, I quickly then discovered just how alone I was when Jequirity's face too was displayed for myself and the other tributes. I never would have imagined surviving so long would feel like being within a library. Silence was y best friend along with a serious nature far too complex for most to understand.
Even now with only six others moving swiftly through the shadows beside me I felt the size of the arena for what it truly was. It's daunting force field didn't feel very small any longer, in fact it felt far too big. What had once been created to host twenty four hopeful participants was now home to seven blood broken warriors. Each with the brightly burning dream of victory swirling at least somewhere amidst the chaos of their minds.
Morning slid slowly back into the arena as I stiffly lifted my body from where I had chosen to collapse the night prior. Leaves scuttled and shifted from my movement but even then I felt as though I was being watched. Then again I knew far too well that I and the other tributes were always being watched at this point. Now that the top seven were the only ones left fighting things became a whole lot personal for the viewers in the Capitol. At this point I couldn't even begin to contemplate the kind of sick fantasies some of them played in their heads about some of he tributes. Hell, some of them could even be dreaming of me but I no longer cared. If they wanted to dream of the way I felt or the way I tasted then let them. None of them would ever matter to me, not now or in my unforeseeable destiny.
Once again just as the numerous times before I found myself venturing through the ghastly quiet of the vast landscape, except this time I felt even smaller. Without the subtle flirts from Ruth or even the subtle comforts of any of my past allies companies I felt like a wandering entity. Yet I was sure my loneliness would soon be rewarding by the draining of blood from mine or my opponent's body. What could I say, the Capitol loved the conflict in this show of theirs.
Thankfully my thoughts were actually proved to be correct as I noticed the figure several yards away fro me. Parts of my mind questioned what or who they were but I forced my curiosity to go silent. Whether they were even a threat or not didn't matter any more. All I could focus upon was fulfilling my word to Ruth and reaping all the souls that got to continue living in her place. They were all unworthy compared to the brilliance she contained. For that I would make them all realize the error of their existence.
