Diary of:Erinyes (Erin to my friends) Estuarian
Age:18
Gender:Female
District/Area:Capitol
The view as I gaze into my mirror:
Erinyes is far from perfect. Chief among her flaws is that she is stuck up, bitchy and a snob who thinks she is better than everyone. Don't let her fool you into believing that is perfect, she's just manipulative that way. Most of the girls in school are terrified of her as they know she could heartlessly destroy them socially in a heartbeat if she wanted to. Even her so called friends fear her and flatter her. Her nose is far from perfect as she'd have you believe but the girls know that the best way to stay in with Erin is to flatter her. Those girls have NO intention of going through with rhinoplasty to match Erin's nose on their face, but you earn so many points by sucking up to her, and that is worth it, in their book. Truly, Erin's life is rather sad; the only person in the world that truly loves her that she loves back is her brother Canus, and he cops her abuse and derision more than just about anyone. Her parents are far too busy with their own lives and careers to give her any genuine attention and love, and Erin needs someone to help her learn that that road in life is unsatisfying and lonely.

The view as I gaze into my mirror:
Dear New Diary,
It’s so nice to start a diary, like a little book all about me. And since you’re going to be keeping all my deepest secrets and desires, I think it’s important that you get to know me first.
Sometimes, being this beautiful is hard. People are constantly asking me for beauty tips and secrets. ‘How do you get your hair to shine in such lustrous blonde ringlets, Erin?’...‘Oh I wish I was half as beautiful as you!’ to which I usually reply, ‘Why not wish to be just as beautiful? We both know you’ll never get it, so why settle for half a wish? Seems a waste, you know, if someone is handing out miracles or something.’ Surgical perfection is no substitute for natural perfection.
But it can be tiring. Also, I have to spend a lot of time looking at the mirror and photographs, or it just isn’t fair. People around me get to look at me, where as I have to content myself with their less than perfect visages all the time.
My last boyfriend said that I had legs that just went on and on. I don’t know what he was talking about. They are just right for my torso length. Weirdo. He didn’t last long after that, and I think his emotional scars from the breakup might be lifelong.
I am so lucky to have such beautiful parents. I can see that several of their best features were combined in me, and they are already stunning on their own. I have my father’s crystal blue eyes and my mother’s alabaster brow. My best feature is possibly my nose though; it is so cute and adorable that no less than seven girls in my class at school asked if I’d mind if they had their surgeons copy it for them. I only said yes to the really good friends though. It might make my nose seem less attractive if it’s seen on less than perfect faces all over the Capitol.
My Life so far:
I have to stop looking in the mirror and concentrate on telling you about my past...
No wonder my parents had to reject all those agents begging for me to model ever since I was a baby. I kind of wish they hadn’t said no to them though. They think having my photo sold off is cheap, and we don’t need the money. They’re so missing the point; it’s not about the money, it’s the fame. But there’s plenty of time to gain that for myself. It does seem a lot of work though. Canus, my little brother, spends most of his time when he isn’t obsessing over his appearance, working to get famous. It’s a good idea for him, because our parents aren’t going to keep giving him such a generous allowance forever. Not that they’d let him be poor or anything, that would be bad for the family name. Anyway, I figured I’d let him do the work of getting famous, and then I’d just let his fans see me and then I’d be famous too, but without all the bother of having to work for years and years at it.
Everyone always says how Canus and I look like twins, because we’re so close in age. It drives him a bit crazy when I steal his limelight, and he can be a real brat about it, but he’s the only person in the family who has any sense of humour or fun at all. Not that I’d ever say that out loud to anyone.
It’s a little embarrassing to admit this, even to you Dear Diary, but my family are what some call ‘nouveau riche.’ They haven’t been among the elite of the Capitol for all that long, only since my grandparent’s generation. Thanks to Grandmother’s hard work and ruthlessness, we have risen pretty far. I really appreciate how hard my parents work so that we can keep in this position of affluence and power too.
Both Mother and Father adore me, of course. I am just what they wanted after they had Artus, my older brother, also a perfect child, like me. They have never made it a secret from me that they only wanted two children, and Canus, my little brother was an accident. The feuds between Canus and our Father are epic, as Canus is constantly acting out, looking for attention. His behaviour really is shameful at times, but highly entertaining, and luckily for me my parents know that I’m not to blame for any of his misbehaviours, even if he has somehow convinced me to go along with his schemes, so I never get into trouble for any of the things we get up to.
Don’t tell anyone, Dear Diary, especially Canus himself, but I do love him rather a lot, really. He doesn’t have Artus’ brains, or my skill with people, but he is always very attentive and doting towards me, and I like to be around him...most of the time. Of course, when I’m with my friends it’s important to treat him like the little pest that he is.
What else can I tell you about my past? Well, I went to all the best schools, and had excellent tutors and all that. High marks were more of Artus’ thing than mine, not that I couldn’t have got them if I wanted to. I didn’t get in first round to the university I wanted and I cried quite a bit that day. But Daddy explained that the next round was a negotiation round, and that he and Mother would sort it out, and they did! I’m so enjoying my fashion design course. My tutors all comment on how fabulous my work is. I don’t intend to actually build up a brand name though, because by the time I’m done at university Canus should be famous and I’ll be his way hotter sister. I can’t wait for all the paparazzi to be buzzing around every time I go near a window or out of the house. And then I’ll release my fashion line and everyone who’s anyone will be wearing something with my name on the label.
In the meantime, I’m having fun, dating some hot guys and being the most popular girl around.
