KATELYN PERSIMMON
The conversation she had had with Arbor followed her all the way back to the training center, as did the image of the remaining career from two being struck down. Four tributes left. And the coffers filled with what she was able to offer Harbinger in the way of help was scraping the bottom of the barrel. It was to be expected since there were two careers with multiple mentors and that seven appeared to becoming the new four in terms of people wanting to see a win from the district after so many near misses. The uneasiness in her stomach wasn’t helped by knowing that three strong male competitors from eleven had placed fourth in the last seven years.
Iago. Potato. Crusader. The names whirled around in her head as she headed to the dining hall for a snack. The track record for eleven wasn’t great. There were a few stand outs here and there, especially in recent years, but for the most part it was rare that both tributes even made it into the top twelve. No matter. The Rhodes family would not have to bury another kid. Katelyn wanted to make sure of it. She was supposed to meet up with Kirito at some point, but for the moment she just needed some time to think. Arbor’s perspective had been unique, but there were other mentors out there. Victors who had never brought anyone back. Younger victors like herself; the ones she’d been avoiding. But she could see one of them now.
Opal Shore. She was barely into her twenties and already a widow if the rumors were to be believed. Katelyn had a tendency to take anything she heard about her fellow victors with a grain of salt, as she knew the media liked to blow things out of proportion. Why, she wouldn’t have been surprised if they were saying there was something going on between herself and Kirito after the paparazzi had surprised them in the diner. So what they had said about Opal and Potato was worth reserving judgement about. Katelyn glanced at the prosthetics and then at the empty seat at the victor’s table. Opal had lost limbs over the course of the sixty-fourth but still managed to kill Yaa in the end.
It was a games that Katelyn remembered watching vividly as that had been the year she had become reaping age. It was the first time she had paid attention; and neither tribute from eleven had survived the first day. After grabbing a small bowl of fruit salad, she slid into the seat opposite Opal. “Hi. I'm Kate.” She said business like with a hand extended for a shake.“Since we’ve both got tributes in the final four I thought it might be a good idea to meet you; and from what I’m heard, you’re not like most careers. Which, I have to admit, makes me a little curious about you."

I'll never find your trust when it doesn't exist"
