The Tolls Of The Tower,
Ring With The Rhymes Of Broken Times
The world tumbles and breaks as the haunting calls of death serenade its victims within the arena. Vivid cold runs through Kirito's veins as his body tremors. Not even the gentle sound of Katelyn's voice can break through the frozen wall of his horrors. Memories of hell once again lay torment to his feeble mind as the words of the fallen once again devastate his mind into a scarlet pulp. It was only a year ago, but yet it was also right now as well. Kirito was no longer just another viewer of this cursed event but he was also trapped within his own crucible of death. Each of them were so close to the taste of freedom but still three of them must soon be put to the sword. No matter how any of them tried to look at it twenty three doesn't equal one.
Within Kirito's chest he could feel his heart spiraling into a panic driven frenzy. Caesar Flickerman's words of excitement fused with the rampant cheering being displayed throughout the Capitol. Each and every last one of them was rejoicing in the rise of their newest victor while each and every last mentor were greeted with the feelings of complete dismay. Finales in general were wicked events, but it had been quite a long time since a four way finale had awoken from its dormancy. Kirito couldn't even begin to fathom how Cricket was handling the return of her own curse, then again Kirito was more concerned for how Harbinger was handling it all.
The mists that guided them closer and closer to one another slower began to grow thinner as Kirirto's body shuddered harder. Across the room the mutilated laughter of Gunner and Elya drew Kirito's attention from the screen. As usual the two were fooling around in more peculiar ways than Kirito would care to have ever seen. Yet today their actions sent even more viscous chilling blows down his spine as he watched Elya raised her fingers in the form of a gun to the screen then ever so softly whisper the word "Bang" three times. It was at this point Kirito forced himself to quickly depart from the false arena and remove himself from the twisted cackles of two sides of a broken triangle.
However Kirito should have known better as he entered what he hoped was the safety of the elevator. Once again his torturous vexes sent spindles of regret straight into Kirito's heart as his eyes met the breath taking gaze of Nat Krigel. Of all the times he could have chosen to venture out from the hollows of darkness Kirito was surprised he had chosen now. Not even when Nat's stolen head had first been branded once again to Kirito's mind was he given the gift of his visitation. Only now as Kirito's own tribute and Leon's turned towards each other with blades glinting did Nat choose to come, but still Kirito should have figured he was close behind Gunner and Elya.
Kirito felt his throat tighten as the words he tried to produce to the blonde crowned boy from Four clotted and stuck together. Yet before any of Kirito's phrases could be muttered Nat's hand rested gently on one of Kirito's shoulders as a slight smile broke across his lips. Yet just as soon as his ghastly presence had been returned to Kirito it vanished again to the reaches of death in which Kirito could not follow. It would appear that once again in only a matter of short time Nat had sent waves crashing across Kirito's already troubled waters. However, at this point Kirito no longer attempted to resist the waves as the smashed against his soul. Even now he didn't care as Kiri cursed and wreathed in his cell now clearly being barraged by the water.
Everything was slowly slipping away from reality until finally the whole cliff crushed Kirito with a single gaze. Kirito's knuckles turned white with the pressure of his fists but the pain of his nail's piercing his skin was nothing compared to the emotions devouring his thoughts. Wyatt's fearsome stare stayed firmly locked onto Kirito as he walked calmly in a complete circle around him. Wyatt's troubling words once again spilled from his mouth as the pain in Kirito's chest and eye once again surfaced. "Victors do not come from district six." Wyatt said finally as he slammed his book shut and vanished back into the world of shadows and leaving Kirito trembling in the shallow room of the elevator.
Movement swiftly sways the elevator as it begins to descend. Even more panic ensnares Kirito's mind as the moving room halts just before the fourth floor. The person behind the doors is soon revealed to be the one person Kirito had been dreading to meet. His brilliant blue eyes and golden sand hair sends vivid images of Nat once again blaring through Kirito's mind. How could Leon feel knowing it was Kirito who had survived while Nat met his untimely demise? It was a question that had riddled Kirito's thoughts since the moment his name was voiced through the turbulent storm of his own victory.
Kirito felt his mind racing for something to say but all he could manage to force out was a simple nod followed by an even simpler "Hello." Kirito didn't know what to say. He didn't know what it was like to share a conversation with a living Krigel any longer. It was all so foreign to him. It was all so different from before. It was all because Nat was gone and he was alive. It was because Kirito knew Leon could never accept his life over Nat's, who could after all?
