Your Guide to Games FUN!
The Games is a time for new friendships, better writing, amazing characterization and, most importantly, fun!
Fun? My favorite character is fighting for their life.
That's right: fun!
But my tribute lost an arm, their allies betrayed them and they have no more water.
It's time for fun!
Having fun in the Games is pretty common for some people. You may trigger ridiculous REs, make a new friend or really just enjoy watching the torture of your tribute. But, for others, finding enjoyment in the fast-paced Games can sometimes be harder. This guide is meant to help the latter group enjoy the Games even more and teach you how to have more fun with your tributes.
Remember that your tribute is a kid still.
So, your tribute's past includes the death of family, traumatic events and a lost lover, huh? And now they're being forced to murder other children while in fear of being killed themselves, right?
It's time to remember that they're still kids. Even with all of that, they still have some exciting energy within them. Take Harry Potter, for example. Voldemort killed his parents and was constantly on the hunt for him, but he still managed dates and being the captain of a sports team. Even camping out in a tent, on the run for his life, he managed a fun dance with Hermione (okay, okay, I know it wasn't in the books, but it was still cute, okay?? Awkward Daniel Radcliffe awkwardly dancing).
Give in to your tribute's childish side. Dance a bit. Let loose. Remember, and your tribute is well aware of it too, that their time may very well be limited, so make the best of it! Here's how to get in touch with that childish side:
Brainstorm
Before you enter the Games, you’re going to be doing a lot of brainstorming, alone or with an RP Tutor, to help you get better acquainted with your character before you both head into the Arena. Who is your character? How do they feel about the Games? Who are they leaving behind? What are they most scared about? Will they turn into a cold-blooded killer or run away screaming? Among those questions, I encourage you to also ask yourself the following:
1. What does your tribute love to do?
2. What are their hobbies?
3. Aside from work/school/defending the family, what kinds of things do they do with their friends?
4. What makes them laugh?
5. Do they make others laugh ever? And how?
6. What’s their fondest memory?
Blurb it out
Write short little blurbs about your tribute's "fun-side." It doesn't have to do with the Games. It can be them playing a game, playing a trick on someone else, or even just dancing. Make it a goal to make others laugh with this blurb. Challenge an RP Tutor. Tell them you can make them laugh in two paragraphs with your new tribute!
Don’t forget the bright things in your tribute’s life. They may very well be marked down for death, but they’re still human.
Fun doesn't have to be wild
If you've seen my tribute challenges (which you should absolutely sign up for!) you may think fun in the games needs to involve singing, dancing and your tribute's naked bum. However, your tribute's idea of fun may instead be snuggling up with a story, looking at constellations,
Dig deep. Think. They’re a kid who may very well die. In between all that fear, there must be something they really truly enjoy that they’re remembering now, longing for. Well, guess what? Go for it!
Don't forget that they'll be bonding with other tributes.
It's perfectly fine to go solo, but it's a reality that most tributes will be teaming up with another tribute at some point. Don't forget to get in touch with that other writer and their tribute. Bonding can usually bring out the happiness in a person. However, also be aware of the kind of relationship your tributes are having: is it a friendship or a suspicious partnership? If it's a friendship, ask yourself this question: how does your tribute make friends?
Fighting Fun
There can be fun in fights? Yes, of course there can! Fights make up the bulk of the Games for obvious reasons. Your tribute is multi-faceted during fights. As you try to stay true to their usual character, and their moral character, they're also faced with the very real possibility that they may die. In-character, balance these things in a healthy way. The terror won't fade, but don't let their personality become completely lost behind terror. If they're normally sassy and you feel a sassy comment or two coming on, don't fight it.
Don't let the fight extend outside of in-character. Give another member space if need be, but refrain from personal jabs and arguments. These things can sour the entire Games for everyone.

But what if it’s not fun anymore?
Not having fun anymore? Did your tribute die? Your allies betrayed you? Drama has you down. Well, my friend, it’s time to take care of YOU. Here are some self-care tips to bring the fun back:
1. Go on a walk
Turn your computer off. Close your laptop and go for a walk. Listen to some of your favorite tunes. Breathe in the fresh air. Clear your mind of Games and when you’re ready walk back. Don’t immediately immerse yourself in the Games world again, but take your time.
2. Take a bubble bath
Aren’t bubble baths just the best? Get naked (if you aren’t already!), run the warm water and indulge yourself in a warm, quiet bath. For the best ambiance, light some candles and take Instagram photos of your soapy legs, you filthy animal.
3. Dance. Laugh. Do Something Fun.
Coping doesn’t need to be quiet and relaxing. It can be wild and crazy. Jump around. Call your friends. Play some video games. Sing at the top of your lungs. See your friends. Do whatever makes you feel good!
4. Try this website
It’ll talk you through how to feel less shitty, trust me!
5. Talk it out
A staff member, a friend, another member are always willing to talk it through with you. Let it all out—but try to refrain from bashing another member or tribute, okay?
6. Write more!
You’re a great writer and you’ve only grown in the Games. So, why not write more? Create a new character to fall in love with, write a fun one-shot, blitz with your closest friends. You came to the site to write, so writing can absolutely relax you more!
You’re going to grow a lot as a writer in the Games. You’re going to learn a lot about yourself and about others. And that’s okay! Just don’t sacrifice fun! I wish you all the Games
