Daniel Decatur
Gasping Daniel reached land. Taking fistfuls of sand, dragging himself up out of the water. He collapsed on the scalding sand, letting the grains stick to his wet skin. He had the goggles he had swiped from the Bloodbath on and thought better of taking them off.
He stayed on his stomach, bathing in the sunlight letting the Capitol made rays dry him off. Daniel sat up coughing. Salt. The water, the sand it all tasted and smelled of it. He gritted his teeth trying to think of how they were going to get drinkable water.
Alba would know what to do, being from District 4. They know all about water in 4... right? Where was Alba? She's getting supplies at the Cornucopia, they'd meet up eventually.
Daniel sat up on the shore, looking through his pack. He slipped his goggles up onto his forehead and pulled on a pair of sturdy gloves. After shifting through his rewards he packed it all back up. No food or water.
Daniel stood up and turned his back on the water, gazing at the jungle/shore border.
He stood in the sand, staring at the impossibly tall trees. Daniel thought deeply, should he wait on the beach for Alba or look for supplies in the jungle?
He picked the wiser: the jungle since he was visible to not only Alba but to enemies.
He started off to the jungle and noticed his foot prints int he sand. Daniel turned back towards the water and squinted to see if anyone was in sight. He didn't really see anything and proposed the idea that by the time someone got to this part of the island it would be too dark to see them and/or the tide or the wind would have cleared them.
Daniel held his sword tightly and whacked at a vine blocking his entrance to the jungle.
Once a little ways in Daniel had to remove his vest and stuff it in his back pack, it was just too hot for anything extra.
Daniel let his sword arm drop as he tumbled over a root and fell into a tangle of vines. It was getting dark and Daniel had a flashlight, however he didn't want to run down its power.
Finally the tribute from 10 leaned against a tree trunk and sighed. Maybe he should have waited for Alba.
Suddenly the anthem was booming through the arena, and Daniel peeked up between the trees at the sky. The seal of Panem shone then the first face of the dead.
Daniel froze. No. No. No. It couldn't be... could it? However, there it was, Alba's picture up in the sky.
He shouldn't have left her at the Bloodbath. He should have waited. He should have fought along side with her.
However you can't undo the past. Alba was dead and he was alone.
Daniel's numbers turned against him. 0 food. 0 water. 0 allies.
Suddenly, even with 4 other tributes dead and the fact that he hadn't gotten a scratch at the Bloodbath, the odds were not in his favor. They were with the District 4 boy and his alliance Daniel always saw him with. They were with his district partner and her alliance. They were with Alba.
Alba wasn't in this hell hole anymore. Daniel, on the other hand, was alone.
Daniel leaned his head back so it was laying against the bark of the tree. He tried to work the numbers to make his positive but it just didn't work.
Daniel Decatur was in the negatives and he didn't like that.
The sky went dark and left Daniel to mourn his ally and think of a way to stay alive.
