BASIL HORACE
NAME: Basil Horace
DISTRICT: Wanderer
AGE:Fifty-Seven Fifty-Eight
BIRTHDATE: April 14th
GENDER: Male
DISTRICT: Wanderer
AGE:
BIRTHDATE: April 14th
GENDER: Male
APPEARANCE
"You say your eyes are blue, yet they look almost gray." some people say to Basil. His hair matches, just as gray as his eyes, if not more so. His skin isn't all too light for being a wanderer, though it isn't as tan as one may expect. Lengthy fingers and bony hands are something Basil has. Scarred on the legs, hands and arms, he gets this from his constant adventures in the woods. He never has quite lived in the same place for very long.
"My height? I'd say I'm six feet even." would be what Basil would answer when prompted to tell how tall he is. "My weight? I've never been positive, living in the woods all my life. I'd say I'm about average, though." his response would be if someone inquired to his weight. His build is strong, surprisingly for someone who's lived in the woods all their life. He's rather well fed, too, meaning that he looks like he's rather sturdy. When he is intently thinking on something, or when he's not entirely happy, Basil can show a rather grumpy expression on his face. His neutral look appears to be very similar to this as well.
"Why don't you smile often?" Basil has been asked before. He replies to tell them that he simply does not have many reasons to do so. When he does smile, however, it seems to be very bright, and can make others smile back. It's very distinctive, and isn't confused for any other expression of his. One thing that Basil seems to find unfortunate about his appearance, other than his heavily scarred body, is that his eyebrows often give him the look of being angry, even when he isn't. It is, however, good for intimidation.
PERSONALITY
"You always seem so grumpy." people tell Basil. He disagrees. He feels that he simply is not happy. Living in the woods as a wanderer for so long, Basil has felt alone. He is not quick to bond with people, and will often distance himself at this point. Although, he does love to tell stories, and listening to him is a great way to get on his good side.
"Yes, I am quite aware that I'm rather smart." Basil would say. He is rather intelligent, and is completely aware of it, often trying to show it off. Unfortunately, as a bit of a show off when it comes to the knowledge of a topic, this can push people away. To some people, he may even appear to have a cold personality, however, it is more so that he just doesn't enjoy socialization very much unless he is the only one talking. Sometimes it may appear that he is listening, even if he is not, and is simply ignoring the person speaking to him.
"People are always so closed-minded and violent. That is why Panem is how it is these days." is an explanation Basil will sometimes give to people. As someone who despises violence and people who are not open to change, Basil can get rather angered. He does not get violent when it comes to these things, however, and will yell at the peak of his anger.
"Get to the point." Basil will tell people when they start to ramble on. "I can handle crisis situations quite well, thank you." he may also say to those who doubt him when something goes wrong. He feels that he is underestimated just because of his age and somewhat frailer-looking body. "How else would I have lasted this long, had I not known what I was doing?"
HISTORY
"I knew my family, yes, but they were not around here for long." would be what Basil would say when asked about his family. His mother and father were both captured by Peace Keepers in the woods when Basil was young. His mother was killed immediately, and his father was tortured before being turned into an avox. He never had siblings, and fended for himself in the woods as a wanderer since age twelve. Before then, he had still lived in the woods, but was raised by his parents before the incident that made them get taken from him.
"I'm glad I've never had to experience or watch the Hunger Games. They sound terrible. That's got to be what's wrong with Panem." are Basil's thoughts on the Hunger Games. He's never had television of the mandated watching of the Games, for that matter. Besides, he's never even known someone who lived in the Districts. He also hopes that he never does have to meet someone from the Districts, as, despite being open-minded, he doesn't like hearing about the terrible things they deal with.
"I always found it pretty easy to entertain myself. I love to read, and do own a few books that I've read through many times." Basil tells people who ask how he occupies himself in the woods his whole life. Not only does he read the few books that other wanderers have given him, but he also tends to hike a lot. Despite not having many hobbies, he still does not get bored very often.
