Corey Embers
Corey, to the best of his abilities, always tries to maintain a neat and tidy look. His relatively long brown hair is kept swept to the right as much as possible and the rest all appears kept aside the rear, which ends up in a mess that covers up the entirety of the rear of his neck. It also covers most of his ears on the side, covering their shape and size.
Moving further down his head his thin and dark eyebrows sit above almost dull grey-blue eyes which have the ability to project his emotions more so than he’d prefer sometimes. Sitting in between them is his rather narrow nose, which sits well with his facial structure and allows his face to appear smoother. His cheekbones are very undefined, and his face lacks any sort of blemish aside a spot where his chin and jaw meets his right cheek. His chin does have a point to it but again. Nothing that detracts from his features.
Moving further down one would see a rather thick neck bracketed by two, softly defined shoulders which lead down to tanned, and equally defined arms. His body is skinny, and lacks any visible muscle aside a taut stomach. Aside this, he is largely unremarkable in the fact he has proportionate, strong but rather undefined legs.
Corey has a very live and let live personality. Very non-judgemental and easy going which can make him very easy to get along with and to befriend. He isn't afraid to approach strangers, and offer a helping hand if he feels needed. Though he’ll often just approach people if they look lonely enough, and whilst this may put some people off he makes all effort to make them feel like he’s a trustworthy and friendly boy. The boy also has a fairly decent temper. It can take a lot to get him angry and has very little soft spots. However, he can get very protective over living beings, particularly animals, children and family. And seemingly at nothing. As someone could so much be talking to a friend of his and he’d immediately get in close to investigate. Whilst, if there is anything wrong, Corey doesn't normally use violence when angered despite this, and prefers to try and intimidate his opponent. But if worst comes to worst he isn't afraid to engage someone.
Corey also takes pride in his honesty, and will tell anyone what he thinks or take responsibility for what he’s done and take the repercussions. Though often times his bluntness can come back to bite him, he is of the opinion that lying will make things no matter what the circumstance. Adding this with his loyalty to his friends makes him a very grounded and thoughtful boy. When it comes to problems or tasks the boy will more than likely not give it his all. Taking time to analyse and think out his method of action before doing and it and seeing it through to completion. He also has a very keen eye when it comes to detail, and often makes sure everything is well done and in place before he finishes anything. Corey will also try to hide his feelings a lot too, which is normally betrayed by his expressive eyes. This can, if left unchecked lead to a bottling effect which can lead to the boy exploding into a fit of emotion at the smallest trigger.
The boy also has an adventurous side to him, liking to explore and get to know new areas which has occasionally got him to trouble.when he stayed into areas he isn't really meant to be in. Luckily, he often gets away with a warning, and he knows never to stray too close to anything that could be deemed "official." He did however often scope out the area. Walking along the perimeters of such for as long as possible before being shooed away. He also likes to hang around the fence of his district, never going too close to it or leaving it in fear of being zapped or caught. But he's always within site of it if he decides to go there.
Corey was born on the seventeenth of May to his father, Aiden Embers and his mother, Alexia Embers. One couldn't say he had a difficult childhood but it also wasn't exactly easy, with enough money to get by but rarely enough money to spend on luxuries despite both his parents working in metal works. Despite this, his parents did their best to spoil the boy. Putting him at the forefront of their minds.
Just as he learned to walk at age two, his sister, Aileen was born, and it was almost instantaneous that a protective nature kicked in in him. Sometimes even refusing to let his parents play with her in the fear that they’d do something. This was often perceived as jealousy by his parents but as time went by his intentions became clearer. When school arrived, initially Corey hated being away from home, he wanted to continue to “protect” his sister, however with the distance that the first few years provided he managed to lower his drive to do so. Plus, he was determined to do well at school, he wasn't the best in his class. And all of the pro-Panem propaganda and things such as history he struggled in as he was really more interested in what was happening now. And not all the great stuff the nation supposedly did. This lead to him gaining a “My life is my life” attitude. Aside the reaping, which he knew was coming at some point, he was really disinterested in the events of the world around him so long as they didn't directly affect him or his family. And as long as it stayed that way, he didn't care. This initial approach however proved detrimental, as he didn't find interest in making friends unless they approached him. And if they approached his sister they were almost instantly deemed enemies.
As he matured, and his sister grew, he progressively became less protective but never fully let it go. Always interested in what others were doing around her and always keeping an air of suspicion. This also began to spread to the few friends he had made. He was always there, watching and ensuring nothing went wrong. It was also due to this that Corey had less of an issue approaching people himself. Despite the way he was his friends and his parents both had him consistently meeting new people, and the one’s his friends lead to often lead to him making more friends. This trait soon developed until the boy was able to approach complete strangers with ease if they looked approachable.
The gap between when this started happening and reaping age saw a big growth in Corey’s confidence and his social life, and he soon found himself rather popular. He never let it go to his head either, and was almost always seen around his sister still. However this all took a turn when he hit twelve. And the boy, knowing he was off reaping age began receding. Slowly at first, as he began to bottling up his fears for his friends and him. Thankfully his sister was still two years off. The bottling exploded eventually, and the boy went berserk in his room, trashing it but not breaking anything he knew couldn't be replaced. This also began to form in him at school, where’d he have sudden outbursts for very little reason if he was having a bad day. Which often got him in trouble with his teachers. During his first reaping Corey spent most of the morning hiding, trying to get away so his parents couldn't prepare him. And he was even worse when he was there, constantly fidgeting and almost always looking like he was about to run. Though when his name wasn't called he breathed a huge sigh of relief. Sure, he was sad for the person who got it, but he didn't get it.
In the year between this and his next reaping, Corey was a lot more cautious, though still not afraid to approach people, he was wary that anyone his age would be up for reaping. This didn't stop him making friends, but he was less ready to attach himself to people like he had before. When his second reaping came, almost an exact replica of what happened the year before happened again. Corey spent most of his time hiding, and it took his now eleven year old sister to talk him out of it. Once again he wasn't reaped, but he couldn't help being nervous. After this, and especially after Aileen’s twelfth birthday, Corey’s need to protect Aileen really kicked off. Knowing she can now be reaped and knowing he couldn't replace her because he was a male. He at times will not let anyone near her much to her annoyance.
