MORTUUS.
[ plot by Briar and Rave ]
EIRLYS MORTUUS. // Bio. Eighteen. Female. Head mortician & body burner. Played by @fabulousraven .
“Fragile fingers and heavy scissors, ("she's too young to work down there.") the basement door is heavy, and creaks under the sound of the lot of us. Olive, Ridley, Avery & Annabelle, I count them while my hands shake; this house is so damn cold. They're supposed to be nurses, and errand girls and not wrists deep in kidney trying to find the one salvageable liver. And- ("like you're not Eirlys?"
"Shut up Hyacinth.")
They'll fuck too much of my shit up. ”
HYACINTH MORTUUS. // Bio. Seventeen. Female. Prostitute & surgeon. Played by Python .
“Discovery would lead our entire family to whippings, public execution, or exile to the Capitol, where Avoxes are rumored to be chained and speechless for the rest of their miserable lives.
I will sacrifice anything to prevent that.
The law is as corrupted as the citizens under its rule. The white pawns - our "protectors" and our oppressors, the Peacekeepers - are not always as pure as their white uniforms suggest. There are girls and boys who offer their bodies to them in exchange for food, money, and other essential resources. I do it to cover our tracks.”
CELIA MORTUUS. // Bio. Seventeen. Female. Seller, Surgeon & Second in Command in Morgue. Played by Avalon .
“Gashes left upon her skin are more than simple just freshly sliced markings that, in due time, will lead to fading scars. Though for now, they're embedded with mixed crimson blood that threatens to flow in rivers and streams, and ultimately stain her once drenched palms. Two lives she's claimed thus far with nimble fingers that have yet to fail her while clutched to twin axes coated with human rust. Her flames had extinguished once again and she grit her teeth to feel the pop in her jaw, she held true flames at the back of her throat that were edging to be released to immolate those who tried to slay her. ('You can't reap a reaper.' 'You can't kill a dragon with its own fire.')”
CRIMSON MORTUUS. // Bio. Sixteen. Female. Surgeon. Played by brad bradford ★ d5b [arx] .
“Liver, kidneys, heart, pancreas, lungs, and on special occasions, their brain. Laid out in containers, coolers with clean handles and a chilled core, I admire them. So smooth, bright red, strong—if I weren't so afraid of knives I might actually enjoy watching the blood pool, liquid red dripping down pale, broken skin. Though if I'm honest with myself I'd grow too distracted, too infatuated. The coppery scent of the liquid scarlet, the hypnotizing swirling and clotting of the platelets as it pools on the floor.
I'm more productive with a hood pulled over my head, shades over my eyes, and a flask of blood hidden in my pocket. ('How much?') Greedy hands claw for a piece of what I offer, but none ever pay the full amount. ('All you have.') Panem is poor, District 12 even more so; it's a wonder the Peacekeepers even have the money to buy from us. But they keep coming back chanting—'More, more, more.'—thirsting for chilled hearts and pickled kidneys the way I do for the warm, frothing, liquid life that courses through their veins.”
OLIVE MORTUUS. // Bio. Fifteen. Male. Nurse. Played by maverick hale 🌧️ d5 [nyte] .
“I'm dangerous too, even if I don't look it. People's bodies sell for a lot of money. I don't know how much they're worth but judging by the stench of our basement I'd say like at least twenty whole dollars. That's enough to buy for everyone and our family has like a million people in it so that's a lot of money.
Maybe my sisters think I'm kind of useless because I'm so young. I haven't quite hit my growth spurt... or really grown at all. Mom says it's okay and that I'm just a late bloomer and that I shouldn't worry all the other boys in my class have grown tall and pretty. So I don't but maybe I do just a little bit.”
ANNABELLE MORTUUS. // Bio. Fifteen. Female. Nurse. Played by я𝑜𝓈𝑒 .
“"Be careful, don't hurt them," she will warn. Gentleness is woven into her every movement, for her fists were never meant to collide with flesh and her steady hands wrapped around a blade were never meant to cut into the living. "Don't press too hard," she will chide, her voice hinting the shadow of a demand. Mortuus — the name means death but they are not death-bringers, they are the harvesters. They never meant to hurt them, so they don't.
Stitches in dark trails along flesh long left cold by the echo of a silence heartbeat will catch her eyes. She remembered sewing the skin of the patient back together — only to rip it open in death for the harvest. She values life, she cherishes every breath stolen from the air, every kiss of the heart against a hollow chest, but not death. The only purpose of cold flesh is not to rot six feet under but to unfold for the treasures beneath.”
RIDLEY MORTUUS. // Bio. Fourteen. Female. Surgeon. Played by umber vivuus 12b 🥀 [dars]
“("They can't feel it.") But she could. She felt every cut, every snip and stitch. They wouldn't have been missed, but Ridley wouldn't ever forget them. She kept their names in a journal under her bed: pages and pages of lost souls whose bodies were sold for profit. Each week brought new faces, new names, more money, and certainly more pain.
Eirlys thought Ridley was too young, both to keep the secret from the others, and to handle the work. She was never supposed to know, either, but once when the stars still burned in her eyes, they let her curiosity get the best of her and her feet got brave enough to march downstairs.”
AVERY MORTUUS. // Bio. Thirteen. Female. Nurse. Played by ✨ zozo. .
“oblivious eyes follow tiny clusters of hope down trails of poverty, weaving in and out of leaf-strewn cobblestones and desperate, lost souls. she carries herself with spontaneous ease, delivering last glimpses of happiness to the almost-dead. the last child of ten - some born into poverty, some cast aside into a new home - she falls contently behind and picks up their broken pieces strewn in their journey and stitches them back in place with oblivious energy.”
