XAVIER CLARKE
Xavier keeps his promise this time.
He has memorised the cracks in the pavement below him, what shade the wooden floorboards of his home look like, the outlines of his hands. For so long he tried to look up at the world and see hope in his short time here but now he looks down in fear of it and tells himself he's not scared. He just wants to see her face for one last time, but he promised her more time and he promised her he wouldn't watch her die and the latter is all he has left to give.
He's not scared to watch his love die.
He's scared to admit that she's already dead.-----
Saxton Saxton Saxton Saxton Saxton.
Every time they speak her name his whole body aches.-----
Screams ricochet through his skull and dance through his veins. They scorch his insides as hints of what is to come. Swarms of citizens around him grimace in disgust and some mutter the name of his love. Still, his eyes remain fixed to the floor in faith and promise.
People say she killed a little girl from Eight. Xavier doesn't believe them. She wouldn't do that. She'd fight like hell to come back to him. She'd fight like hell to come home. She'd fight like hell for more time. That doesn't make her a murderer, even if she breaks his heart in the process.
Right?-----
They say she loved the girls from Nine and Six as he had loved her, whispers of unfaithful treason against his heart. He is blinded by love and his eyes burn to find hers trapped in the television screen above him. Eternity begins to run out, a final resting point forming between them with every blade that sinks into her skin. He feels it - tearing his soul up, ripping her to pieces, taking both their lifelines and watching them disintegrate as an end builds itself with bricks made of broken hearts.
He promised he wouldn't watch, but he also promised she'd have more time. And it turns out he's not all that good at keeping promises.-----
"Xavier..."
Saxton screams and his vision blurs.
"No, Mom, no" he begs, but there's a tell-tale hand on his shoulder trying to pull his eyes up to look at anything but the ground and she's whispering comforting words but he can't hear her. "No, no Mom, no. No. No. No-"
Finally, finally, he looks up with tears flooding the sky.
She falls still.
A cannon fires.
"NO-"-----("Sorry about your shoes.""Likewise.")-----
He'll kill him.
He'll kill the boy from Ten.
(No he won't.)
He doesn't have the heart.
(Her friend from Six does.)
His is too busy breaking, beating, breaking, beating-
And her pulse is still.
AND IF I ONLY COULD MAKE A DEAL WITH GOD
AND GET HIM TO SWAP OUR PLACES
LET ME STEAL THIS MOMENT FROM YOU NOW
for grim <3
