You've always been told that you look too delicate for a Career.

While in the heat of the moment you would angrily deny the claim, saying that you were as tough as any tribute that had come before you, in retrospect you could see what brought on such an accusation. Ever since you were a child, you had sported fair, almost white, hair, with a skin tone to match. To add insult to injury, your features were so smooth yet so defined that you looked like you had been carved from porcelain itself.

And you hated it.

Secretly, you envied the girls and boys that had received battle wounds in training, that had some sort of flaw in their form that made them less than perfect, made them appear more like a tough fighter as opposed to a flawless model.

But you were no model. You were a Lumiere, and Lumieres were always fighters.

You had been a fighter from day one, when a complicated birthing procedure had left you near death and your parents less than optimistic. But you had pulled through, shaking off your infanthood illness and growing into a healthy, happy, carefree child that often wanted for little. Even as one, two, three, four, five more siblings entered the picture throughout the years, you were always the favorite, the eldest daughter of this generation of the Lumiere clan, the prodigy that would bring glory and honor to her family.

At least that's what your grandmother and numerous aunts and uncles thought. Your parents, on the other hand, thought otherwise, seeing you as being too precious to lose after the struggle that had transpired upon your birth. And so, for twelve years you were coddled and spoiled, protected and doted upon, until finally, your grandmother listened to your pleas to begin Career training and used her influence as the family matriarch to overrule your parents.

You entered training at the fairly late age of thirteen years old the very next year. From the first day, you were hooked. Pain, sweat, blood, and tears were all new and exciting sensations to experience, and despite your inexperience it quickly became your favorite pastime. Never before had you had the chance to swing a weapon or fight against another one of your peers. Never before had you felt the sting of defeat or the sheer exhilaration of victory or the thrill of the fight.

This was what you knew you had been born to do, even if your parents disagreed.

Despite hardships from entering later than most other kids in your district, despite your parents trying to subtly sabotage your training, despite your trainers scoffing that a girl who looked like she might shatter into a million pieces at any second could get nowhere in the Games, you pressed on. Tapping into some sort of stubborn endurance hidden deep within yourself, you forged through training and school one day at a time, your resolve never wavering as you pressed on forward.

As time past, your too-thin body gradually matured into that of a young woman. Long hours of practice left lean, powerful muscle across your body, even if your looks remained virtually unchanged. You stood at a modest five feet eight inches tall, towering over most of your female brethren and a good portion of your male friends as well. Porcelain statue you may be on the outside, on the inside you are far from the delicate statues that adorn your household.

Rather surprisingly for a teenager of One, you are rather shy and reclusive compared to many of your outgoing, partying peers. You'd much rather spend evenings on the weekend curled up in your room reading or out in one of the various training centers working than dancing and getting drunk. Even when your cousin Lex has managed to drag you to one of said parties, you rarely spend more than a few hours, showing no interest in the sex-crazed, drunk teenagers. In this way, your parents' constant insistence seems to have hit home, as they too do not see what joy "Kids these days" get from partying.

You may look more like a beauty pageant model than a warrior, and you may not be as bloodthirsty or quote unquote "hardcore" as your peers. But there is no denying to anyone you meet that you are a Career, and couldn't be prouder of the title.

Maybe someday, you'll get the chance to prove that you should never judge a book by its cover.
