Alexander Lumiere
Bodies twisted and turned around him, keeping steady with the beat. Movement was quick, controlled, surprisingly smooth despite the amount of alcohol that had been ingested.
Lights flickered overhead, casting multicolored beams down onto the crowd, illuminating figures at random. For a second, their features would flash, then just as quickly fade back into anonymity.
Music was felt rather than heard, emitting a bass so powerful he could feel it reverberating through his very core. The tune was familiar yet powerful, sending a rush of adrenaline spiking through his nervous system.
As far as parties went, this one was the hit of the night.
And as usual, Lex Lumiere found himself right in the middle of it.
He swayed back and forth to the beat, letting himself get immersed in the beat. Faces flashed across his vision as he danced, none creating a spark of recognition.
Sweat dampened his newly dyed blonde hair, working futilely to counteract the heat of friction and masses of bodies. It gleamed across sharp cheekbones and bare torso, shining on bare skin and giving the boy an illusion that he had bathed in the very crystals his district manufactured.
A cup, fiery red and half full of a liquid that set the insides alight, had gotten lost in the chaos of the dance floor. He hadn't really been bothered, nor did he really care.
After all, it gave him a chance to return to the keg off in the corner, and to the cute guy that had been standing awkwardly by it for the last fifteen minutes.
Lex maneuvered away from the center of the dance floor, weaving between packs of partying teenagers and deflecting invitations to grind.
If Lex wanted, he guessed that there were at least a dozen girls on the dance floor that he could hook up with, and at least half as many guys. Though it was never spoken verbally, it was common knowledge that, aside from late night fun and entertainment and cheap booze, parties such as this were a good place to engage in acts of romantic and sexual nature, from dance-floor grinding and drunk makeout sessions to acts significantly more mature.
Tonight, however, Lex was looking for more than a simple one-night stand. Quick and easy sex was fun and all, but it got boring after a while, especially when it was done too often.
No, tonight he was going to take a different approach. Because as much as he enjoyed the sexual aspect of it, Lex also enjoyed the simpler, sweeter things in romance as well.
Besides, he thought with an internal smirk. This guy looks about as innocent as a kitten.
Finally emerging from the mosh pit of the dance floor, Lex sprang into action. Smoothing out his hair and straightening out his jacket, he stepped confidently, purposefully, towards the keg.
Grabbing a new cup from the side, he poured himself another helping of the liquid fire, peeking at the awkward guy from out of the corner of his peripheral vision. The boy looked nervous, almost out of place (A newbie to the partying scene, Lex mused) and was standing with a cup in his hand, gaze focused rather intently somewhere in the middle of the dance floor.
As Lex watched, a stray beam of white light swung over the boy, illuminating his dark hair into a fiery auburn color. His face looked young, boyish, almost, but he stood as tall as Lex did and had the build of someone who had been training as a Career for most of their life.
Well, if nothing else, this will at least be interesting. The blond boy thought. The innocent ones are always entertaining.
Taking a sip of his drink, he stepped over to where the boy was standing alone in the corner. Positioning himself directly to the boy's right, he turned and faced the crowd, so that they were standing practically shoulder to shoulder.
After a few heartbeats, he spoke. "So, what's a pretty face like yours doing over here all alone on this fine evening? he asked, still facing the crowd. He turned his face expectantly towards the boy, a smug smirk plastered on his face, waiting to see how he would respond.
