when there's nothing but dark and sound
i will be beside you
when there's nothing but the long way 'round
i will be beside you
i will be beside you
when there's nothing but the long way 'round
i will be beside you
By the time the bell rang for lunch Danny felt about ready to pass out. Her muscles ached and she swore her lightheadedness had never been this bad before. She supposed she was lucky nothing was bleeding (yet), but as she desperately tried to blink the world back into focus she decided that having a meal with the other tributes in this state was absolutely not an option.
Instead she made her way toward the girl's bathroom. It was far fancier than even the ones back at home, but she ignored the fine designs on the counters and gilded framing of the mirrors in favor of checking to make sure there was no one else around. Silence reigned and for once she welcomed it, slouching against a wall and trying desperately to press the stars out of her eyes with her palms. After a few beats of heavy breathing that reminded her of a boy back home who was still blindly hoping, she lifted her head and caught her reflection in the mirror.
A dark splotch peaked out on her collar, just above the neckline of her shirt. She grimaced, hesitating only for a moment before pulling her shirt up and over her head. The undergarment they'd provided her was neon colored, bright to contrast the bruises all over. J knew she wouldn't take her shirt off, not in a million years, but she'd been waiting all year for a new tribute and she wouldn't be denied the right to design even the things no one would ever see. Maybe other tributes were comfortable parading about with so much skin exposed. Danny certainly wasn't.
For a variety of reasons.
Sighing, she leaned over the counter and tried to catch her breath, turning away from her reflection. She knew Aiden thought she could do it. She knew he thought she was going to win.
And she was so used to lying to other people that it came easy, to pretend that she might actually stand a chance.
i'll be everywhere you go
you go, you go,
i'll be everywhere you go
you go, you go
you go, you go,
i'll be everywhere you go
you go, you go
