Only Truths {Frankel}{Blitz}

Lately I have indulged in the life of loneliness quite well, since my last encounter with a human being, my time spent a lone in this never-ending forest has been quite pleasant. However the resources in my pack are slowly dwindling and with most animals in hibernation, foraging and hunting is out of the equation. So soon I must either scavenge a wanderer camp or enter one of the Districts.

From time to time, I do like to have human contact, finding out information on what is happening. I tend to like to know where the peackeepers are stationed or if there has been an uprising amongst the Districts. For a while now, the men in the white armour seem to be off my scent although I know that I am still a wanted man. I have deceived them so many times, for if I had lost the grip of something valuable, I’d be eager to catch it. I bet the peacekeepers have put a bounty on my head; whoever arrests me must gets a pay rise or a promotion. For ten years they’ve been on my tracks and for ten years, I’ve always been one...or maybe two steps ahead of them.

"A fellow wanderer, I presume?"

The question catches me off guard in the darkening forest, turning my head; I’d be met by an older man. Is he wanderer? He could be a peackeeper in disguise…but an old man like that? Although I wouldn’t put it off the Capitol to have frail elderly men amongst their ranks for I have seen some right hogs running around in that armour.

”And who is asking?” I’d say, being wary of the elder man’s presence. Shifting my eyes amongst the trees, to see if there were any others ready to pounce.

Continuing to eye the vegetation that surrounds me and the man, I’d make sure there were no men in the white armour, hiding amongst the bushes with leaves attached to their helmets. Really their camouflage measures are quite predictable…as they don’t have any. White men running around in a green environment, they really do stick out like a sore thumb, no wonder so many of us have slipped from their grasp.

Scanning the elderly man, I have never seen his face before in the ten years I have been roaming these forests. Maybe he is new to this way of life or he is just another that seems to hide away from everyone. Although his safety precaution isn’t at all good, if he is a true wanderer. Marching up to me, announcing who he is in front of me, for I could be one of these peacekeepers in disguise… pretending to be a wanderer, living amongst them, taking in information…although the peacekeepers are too stupid to conjure up such an idea. Really they should just employ me; I’d do a better job at catching myself than them.

”It’s alright old man and yes I am a wanderer, of course.” I’d say, reluctant to say my name right now. If he is a peacekeeper, I’ll be able to outrun a frail old man like him and with the silence of the land around us; it seems he has no back up. ”Do you know of any shelter around here, maybe a camp?” Wanting to get introductions over and done with, I’d be eager to bed down for the night after an exhausting day of traveling. Hopefully the man lives up to the ‘wise elder’ stereotype and knows of an ideal location.
