Satine: District One (FIN)

Have you ever had your very soul pierced by a mere glance? If you haven't then you never met Satine. Her eyes seem to be filled with a fire that you just can't get away from. Blue eyes the color of some of the hottest fires, you just want her to keep staring at you, much like a mouse caught in the intense gaze of a snake before it strikes. Raven hair flows down her back in waves, almost to her waist. She has perfectly pouty lips, usually in a shade of wine. Alabaster skin makes her look like a porcelain doll, but don't let that fool you, she is much stronger than she appears at first glance.

Satine has a fighters build. Strong arms are able to handle several weapons, though she favors a whip or a sword. She has very strong legs that seem to go on for days, and she dresses to suit that. Growing up in District One she has been afforded much more than kids in other districts. Her parents treat her like a princess, and like for her to dress the part when she can. She has chosen the career path, because she had to. Her parents would accept nothing less so she has a few scars that are mostly unseen by others. A few on her rib cage from knife fights, and one long one down her back from being hit with a sword.

Strength, Honor, Beauty. All things admired by not only the Capital but also Satine's parents. They expect her to think along those lines as well, and she does. She wants to bring her family and her District honor by one day winning at the games. She is running out of time to do so, but she wants to one day volunteer. Her older brother James never volunteered, and her parents were disappointed in him because of it, so they expect her to do so. She trains hard, and frequently, and her mind is always set on the prize. Satine can be quieter than most, but its only because she is calculating her next move. She can be nice, but that is just another way of her getting into your head to figure out how to best get past you in a bad situation.

Satine is quite beautiful, and she uses that when she can. She sees herself as a venomous snake, beautiful, but deadly. She had issues with anger management, when her parents get on her back too much she tends to fly off the handle. She can't help it. She has gotten into fist fights with girls in the district because of stupid reasons, usually something like they looked at her the wrong way, or at least they did in her mind. In her spare time, what little of it she has, she likes to go running, it gives her a feeling of freedom, the wind on her face, the feel of the pavement under her feet, it is something that she really enjoys.

She can be a little on the selfish side, mostly because she was always treated like she owned the place at home. She feels like she should always be treated that way. It is part of the reason she wants to win the games, she has seen what the victors get, and how they are treated almost like gods, and she wants that for herself. Satine is a very self involved person, but she still wants the honor of bringing a victory back to her district. She is afraid though, as much as she wants to get in the fight, she is afraid of death.

Bruce and Jessamine Genesis were born and raised in District one. They were always close, even from the time they were children, and Bruce knew he loved her when they were fifteen. Jessamine was a little afraid at first, not wanting to ruin their close friendship, but she knew that she loved him too, and when they turned eigtheen, and they both were never reaped into the games, they decided to get married. Two years later they had their son, James, who was their pride and joy. They just knew he was going to volunteer some day, and bring their family honor and pride. six years after James was born their daughter, Satine, was brought into the world. She was a fireball from the first cries, and they loved her dearly.

They upheld their children to the highest of standards, expecting them to do all they could to ensure they were seen as true contenders in the future. Satine was treated like a princess, was dressed like they were putting her out on parade at all times, and James was made to train daily until he was old enough to go the career path himself. Satine admired her big brother, and took to working out with him. Running was their favorite thing to do together and Satine loved spending time with her big brother. As they grew older, James and Satine both became more reserved, quiet even, and things were different at home. Their parents noticed the changes in their children, but didn't bat an eye.

James had decided he would never volunteer. When he told his parents as much they were ashamed of him, and pretty well turned their backs on him. Satine was now old enough to start her own more intense training and they made sure she did it. James was seen as the black sheep of the family. One night, Satin woke up to screaming in the hall way. Her father was calling James a coward, it was the night before his last reaping, and Satine's first, and James once again informed them he would not volunteer. Bruce told him that he hoped he was reaped and died in the games, and Satine cried all night because of it. She looked up to her big brother and it hurt her that her father said that.

James was not reaped the next day, and did not volunteer. Satine didn't volunteer either as she was too young, but the day after the tributes left for the Capital, Bruce kicked James out of the house, and Satine had to watch him go from her bedroom window. It was one of the most painful days of her life. Her parents called her down to watch the games every day after, but it wasn't the same as it used to be. Something had changed at home, the dynamic was different, and now five years later, Satine wonders if she too will let her parents down some day.
