wo more canons rupture through the atmosphere. Two more faces flash among the Stars that also might be a façade from the Capitol. Two more unknown lives that were stolen for an unjust reason. War is a lifestyle that I comprehend far to well, except that is not the fault here. Enemies are forced in this dome, while the true villains reside outside of this confinement. The downfall to this conclusion is that the innocent, or not, must still be slaughtered. Heaviness weights below my eyes, but there is still no urge to sleep. If guard is rested for a mere moment, regrets can conspire. At any second an opponent may attack and I must be ready. The endurance I pertain is tested though with the thick water to trek through. Steps may be easy on land, but with the miles of this abyss a simple walk proves to be difficult. Since lifted into this Arena relieving fields have been scarce, though I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. Why must the terrain be so difficult when life-taking threats already linger? Guess they are truly seeking a quicker Game this year.
Echoes of the fights that must have been conducted invade my hearing. Cries of death breaches through the silence, until the emptiness then takes control again. My shins press against the resistance of pushing forward, just as they must have. The screams continue to interrupt occasionally, along with visions of when I’ll encounter battle. Twenty-four must die, and many more dangers also lurk. With the environment provided, I’m conflicted between many physical dilemmas.
Except at this very moment Rayne may be observing me. Those beautiful crystal eyes may be pondering the very next move I make, whether I’m capable of returning. The deep burns marking my exterior might have her questioning me. It’s not the audience, or the Game Makers, that needs to be satisfied. Rayne must believe that I’ll be returning to her… I must believe that as well.
A new obstacle alerts my senses. Instantly I’m frozen, after coyly gliding into the challenging nature that’s now proven use. I must believe I can return to Rayne. With the plethora of training Edyn’s provided, and the handy advice from the Capitol’s Trainers, I can flourish. The stakes may be higher, but I will deliver greater results in exchange. There is a reason that I am the new Commander.
The craving for blood taunts the tip of my tongue. If death is not evoked, there will be no returning to Rayne. ‘Blood must have blood’, was Edyn’s concrete method. In this circumstance however, blood must be shed to save yourself. When something is going to attack me, I will retaliate.
