Trae just wanted to kill his father. Following another daily beating, Trae limped down the streets of his district searching for any trouble. Today was worse than the other days though. Today his father beat Trae until he could hardly walk, reminding him of the day when he refused to end his mother’s life. This time he didn’t give Trae an excuse. It was just because his father was having an off day. After limping for several minutes and receiving several looks for his beat-up appearance, as those who recognized him believed it was impossible that the great and powerful Trae Tamorlan could be injured so badly, he heard the sounds that he was all too familiar with.

Run-limping to the source of the commotion, Trae came upon the scene of a slim, slender, pale girl, on the ground and surrounded by several 16 year-olds who were pushing her around and verbally abusing her. Looking at the ground, Trae saw an overturned notebook with several pages ripped out. This enraged Trae, as he did not want anyone to get hurt as he did, so he approached the bullies, tapped one of their shoulders so that they turned around, and sucker punched him so hard that the bully went stumbling back several feet before collapsing on the ground. Looking then at the other kids, they quickly realized their mistake and ran away. Turning to the young girl, Trae growled, “Don’t speak of this to anyone, got it?”

It was hard to know that people could be saying anything to you, anything in the entire goddamn world, and you wouldn't know a single clue what the hell they were saying.

That day, the girl from two had gone out. She had no real plan of where, no real plan of what she was going to do that day. She just went out. On a walk around the district or on a small time where the nature would be surrounding her and there would be nothing interfering it. Only her and the world, the beauty of it all. The trees and the sky- the birds and the flowers that had just started to sprout from their roots. However, that had been quickly ruined as there was no resting easy in such a place of a world to live in. It was funny if someone were to think they were safe- because really, nobody in this life was safe.

There was a slight moment of her life where all seemed to be at a pause, but then it felt as if she had been awaken from a trance as a force slammed into her, knocking her off of her feet for a moment. She whipped her head around, craning it to see who had run into her and to see if they were attempting to say sorry. But, no, it was a bunch of males. They were older than her- and they all had that devilish look on their face as if she were a meal of theirs to eat.

It seemed like a flash- their mouths moved. It was a verbal threat, she could tell that from their expressions and the gestures they were making. The girl, fourteen years old starting to step back felt herself run into another hard body and then found herself in the middle of the group of sixteen year old boys. Time sped, it was almost as if her life was on fast forward and soon she was on the ground. Pain flashed through her mind as if it were a warning signal ~~(get up and get your ass out of there!)~~

But she couldn't.

For she was weak, and depended on another to survive.

It was almost an echo, starting in one area the pain would sharpen and it would thin out as it spanned across her body. It would bounce back as someone on the other side kicked her. It was all a massacre and she felt like crying- no, she was crying. The streaming hot tears down her face were of fear (was she going to live?)

But then it all stopped- came to a cease as it all started to slowly fade away. Had she died? Was.. was this death? Feeling nothing?

Her eyes fluttered open to turn her head- they were gone alright. And she had been alive- but what made them run off? Turning her head this way and that it would land on a male who was looking at her and mouthing something.

She tilted her head in confusion.

After growling his usual message, which made even the bravest of people scared, Trae expected the girl to whimper an agreement, maybe even run, scared he might change his mind. But all the girl did was tilt her head at him. Trae was taken aback by this action. No one ever stayed calm in his presence, especially after saying those words. “Are you not afraid?” He asked, but to only see her stay in the same position, silently. “Is she mocking me?” Trae thought, “Or is her mind nothing but a blank page?” Trae started thinking, “Where had I seen this behavior before?” His eyes explored her body, particularly her blank expression. He thought she might be dumb, but no, her eyes were full of intelligence, as questioning as his own.

Eventually, his gaze landed on a wide-open notebook lying strewn only a few feet from the girl. It was hers, most likely, and he was close enough to make out some of the writing. There were few pictures, almost only words. She wasn’t writing a story on those pages, he realized with a start, unless that story was her own. The sheets of paper were filled with dialogue, which made Trae wonder if the girl had a voice of her own.

Trae realized with a start that he had seen a similar girl in the past, perhaps even the same one, though that might be his memory playing tricks on him. It had been three years ago, before his mother died. Trae had been walking home after school, preparing for another ~~beating~~ training session, when he’d noticed a girl standing next to a Peacekeeper, holding a similar notebook to the one currently on the ground in front of him. The Peacekeeper had been writing down questions for the girl, which she had been using to respond. Trae hadn’t stopped of course, but the unusual nature of the interaction between the two had left a mark in his memory.

“Perhaps this is that same girl.” Trae thought to himself. Not dumb, just deaf it appeared. He approached the notebook and picked it up, gesturing in her direction for something to write with.

It was an art that made her believe in stories of kingdoms and dragons, of giants who were all big and bold and strong and mean, but the big and bulky giant in front of her was no mean giant. He was a friendly giant, someone who believed in sparing another's life, someone who realized that everyone needs a helping hand and he decided to give it. A back to rely on because nobody was fully able to protect themselves just by their own.

His lips moved again. He said something, but of course due to being deaf, she still had no clue of what he was attempting to say. The giant seemed confused, surprised by what she was doing. But what was Cyder doing to make him react in such a way? It seemed odd, his response to what she was doing. He just stood there, astounded by her reaction like a kid at a zoo, watching the animal to see it's every single move and in awe of what it can do.

He soon picked up her journal that was filled with words and drawings, her own thought book because she had no way to provide them for those to see what she felt on the inside. And that scared her. Because her emotions, her deepest thoughts and her imagination was placed into that book which the male was holding. It could be seen in her eyes as she soon rushed over to hit his hand (it was the only thing she could think of doing). The journal soon fell out and she gripped it with all of the might she could use for that moment.

There was a pen lodged inside of the rings of that journal as she then realized how silly she was being- it was just a notebook with drawings and words in it!

Blushing and looking down, she took out the pen and handed it to him along with the journal.

The sharp pain emanating from his hand filled Trae with surprise. He had not expected to get slapped, much less that hard. Watching the notebook fall to the ground and the girl snatching it off the ground, Trae wondered what was really inside. Could it really be so bad that the girl didn’t want Trae to look inside? After a moment’s hesitation, he found his answer.

No, it couldn’t. Trae saw the girl bend down to pick up the notebook as her cheeks flushed. Without as much of a delay this time, she handed it to him, and he readily accepted her trust-infused motion. Flipping through the notebook to find a clear page to write on, Trae stumbled upon the page that confirmed his suspicions of her being the girl from all those years ago.

There were only two sentences written down on the paper. “Do you have proof?” and one saying the person will get back to her soon. It made sense to Trae now, as he remembered her showing her back to the peacekeeper she was with, but he couldn’t remember what it was exactly that she was showing him.

Finding a clean page, he thought about what to first ask the girl. “Should I ask for her name? Why she was bullied?” He thought to himself, “Why not all of these questions?” So he decided, he’ll ask all of the questions at once, and give her room to answer, and he started writing.
