Remo Moreno
It felt like years since his brother Dino had passed away. The training that Remo Moreno had gone through made him lose more than gain. Morenos were strong. Stronger than any other family in the District, yet that wasn't true. Remo Moreno had learned that quickly. Scout Fray was the proof that Morenos weren't strong. A girl who had beaten him in a tournament. Sparring was something Remo did often, yet he lost at it to a girl named Scout Fray. A haunting memory that will stick with him until her victory or death. A fate was upon her and Remo saw it, victory was in her grasp and Remo wanted her to take it. If anyone deserved it, Scout Fray did.
A smile appears on his face as he marches towards the market area. Spices were what the Moreno was after. Cooking has been his newest hobby, after all the big man known as Leo Pine was living with him and ate more than Remo did on his own. A little house for the two guys to live in. It was perfect for a family, but Remo would never have that. Not anymore. Ana was gone and out of his life with his kid, no longer to be seen. The woman slipped away during the night and never looked back for him. Memories of laughs and happiness fill his head only bringing out the depression that secretly haunts the Moreno boy inside and out.
Leo Pine has kept his mind of the terrible things in his life. Leo Pine was a savior in his own way without knowing it. Remo Moreno wouldn't be himself if Leo hadn't appeared in his life. Brothers to the end is what they were. Leo was bringing Remo out of the hole he dug in for himself. The Moreno who was in the District war. The Moreno who killed his brother to prosper. The Moreno who lost his kid and wife. The Moreno who lost in the Olympics. The Moreno who was a failure. Leo Pine made all of that pain feel less painful and more like experiences to better his future. The pain would never disappear, but Remo would try his best to ignore it to the best of his abilities.
The market was bustling like it always was. The memories of sitting in the middle playing a melody for the crowd of people, just to make a little bit of money. That was some of the best times for him. The one girl, who he had found out to be named Francesca had danced to his music. It made him smile to see someone with such a wonderous talent show it off, but all good things came to an end. Francesca was dead now. In a coffin, six feet under. Remo's life had been nothing but mistakes that happened over and over. The depression was always lurking in every memory he had. Just waiting to swallow him whole and spit him out beaten and broken.
Spices were his goal for the day. His depression needed to not come up like a tidal wave crashing into him. His feet moved on their own as Remo tried to catch himself again from all the terrible memories. The guitar that he used to play on his back, since he never takes it anywhere anymore. The musical instrument feels comforting on his back. A new craving pulls at Remo's gut and the Moreno accepts it with open arms. The guitar swings over his shoulder as he silent strums a tune. Concentration to not mess up and walking at the same time causes Remo to stumble a bit, but he catches himself and continues the melody.
A bench in the middle of the market is where he decides to sit and play some music. Spices long forgotten. Leo would be okay with Remo taking the day off to play some of his music. Remo just let the melody take over his body. The depression was there, but smaller than before. The melody was shaving it right out of his mind. A slight feeling of happiness hits Remo with full force and it makes him want to cry, but Morenos are strong. Remo holds the tears in and continues to strum the instrument that cures the darkness. A small smile hits Rem across the face and his body begins to melt into the music. Remo Moreno was depressed for most of his life, but in that moment, the music was giving him some happiness that Remo hasn't felt in a long time.
