Age: Seventeen
Gender: Male
District/Area: One
Appearance:
Arte stands five feet and nine inches tall and has a lithe build but with wiry defined muscle apparent. He moves gracefully, though he might appear to be off in his own little dreamworld at times. Arte's eyes are dark hazel, with long lashes. His eyes dominate his face, though his high cheekbones, straight nose, and full, slightly wide lips make up the whole as a beautiful young man.
Arte's hair is fiery red and long down to the middle of his back; sometimes he wears it braided and at other times loose. It frames his face and sets off his rather pale skin tone nicely. He tends to dress nicely when he isn't at the Academy and likes to look stylish. His dress can even be a bit flamboyant at times, and this goes with his mannerisms which tend to be broad and dramatic.
Personality:
With a personality to match his hair, Arte is known for being a bit of a drama queen and general pain-in-the-ass, often flamboyant and sometimes loud. He is on occassion displeased with something or other, and expresses his displeasure with anything from a subtle and barely detectable pout all the way up to throwing a large object it's way. He is, however, clever, including clever enough to know when he is finally going too far, and then he stops.
Spoiled and bratty, sure. Verging on histrionic, at times, but Arte tries never to look ridiculous, in fact, he has a fear verging on paranoia of embarrassing himself, at least by his own definition of embarrassment. He has a lot of fears, really, all of which his self-image depends on his ability to hide: fear of looking foolish, fear of being abandoned by someone he cares for, fear of losing it all, and most of all: fear of the Games.
None of this goes to explain the sweet side of Arte's personality, but if you catch him in just the right sort of good mood, he would give someone the shirt off his back. Well, not literally, it's a very nice shirt, but. He cannot stand bullies and has been known to defend smaller and weaker children, and, direct his temper at said bullies in the most sadistic way possible to teach them a lesson. Also, Arte is a closet romantic. He desperately wants to fall in love and be loved in return, much as he fears getting too close to anyone.
History:
Born to wealthy and vain parents, only child Arte is used to be a pawn in some game or other from the time he was small. About the only thing Ivania and Lucidious agree on is that they want to make a Games superstar out of their son, convinced he would win and cover them in left-over glory. It's never mattered to his folks that Arte disagrees with this plan, vehemently, if privately, at this point. Every accomplishment of Arte's is bragging rights, while his few failures (mostly in school, which despite his intelligence, Arte does not bother to do well in,) are blamed each on the other.
From the time he was a child, Arte has been trained to fight and to kill, and part of him loves it: the fact that he knows seventeen ways to cripple someone with his bare hands. The other half, however, knows it is sick and depraved and wants nothing to do with the Games. He has refused to volunteer in the past year, though he passed it off as being ill to everyone but his parents, whom he told, spitefully and angrily, and the mentors, who suspect. Conversely, or perversely, Arte actually is a hard and dedicated worker who learns quickly, when it comes to his Career training - the exact opposite of his behavior in academic classes, which the fiery young man deems un-necessary, after all, he can just follow his parents footsteps and inherit it.
Arte had a best friend from the time he was six until he was thirteen, and in fact had his first serious crush on this friend, who disappeared one night in utter mystery: his parents were simply and irreversably gone, and so was Doven. Whispers suggested that his parents had been executed for some ridiculous treason or other, and their sons sent to the district orphanage. Since then, Arte has been terrified of loving someone deeply, after all, what if he lost the object of his affections once again; he has resisted his desires to a point, choosing casual flings with a man he meets at a party over developing a real relationship, friendship or romantic, though inwardly, he badly craves both.
