I CAN'T ESCAPE THIS HELL
Shutting yourself away from the world is never a good thing to do, however, Lorenza does it all too often. Ben and Angelo had gotten on her nerves today, and Luanna was too busy to do anything other than her work for school and some training. Lorenza's parents were out for the day. Although, she never did get along with them very well, so it was actually a bit of a relief that they were gone for the time being. Having them out of the house often lightened the mood, since the whole family being there seemed to just make the conflict worse.
Her door was locked and she could hear her brothers downstairs, arguing. She didn't want anything to do with them just then, so she chose to ignore it the best she could. Lying down on her bed with her feet kicked up onto a pillow that rested at the end, she had tried resting for a while, closing her eyes, but to no avail. She was never able to get any shut eye when her brothers were around, and there was never a time when they weren't around. That was part of why Lorenza was always so social. She liked to get out of the house, and just get away from it all. Her friends called her Za-Za, and she'd never let her family do that. It was part of what separated home and her social life. Luanna, her best friend, had come up with the nickname years ago, when they were a lot younger.
Since Lorenza couldn't sleep, she sat up on her bed, swinging her feet over the side, and then standing up. She walked over to the window in her room and pushed the curtains aside, then proceeding to unlock the window and slide it up to open it. The fresh air blew in on a breeze, and she loved the feel of it on her face. She let a small smile cross her lips, and she even caught a moment of silence from her brothers. That moment of silence, however, did not last for just a short amount of time like she would have expected. When the silence was over, a scream could be heard, and it was definitely the scream of Ben. In that moment, Lorenza was panicked. She had no idea what was going on, and yes, she may not have liked her family all that much, but it did concern her. She quickly unlocked her door and rushed downstairs.
When she reached the downstairs level of her home, Lorenza saw one of the most terrifying sights of her entire life. Ben was sobbing at Angelo's side, and Angelo wasn't moving. His face was blood stained, and Lorenza immediately rushed over to find a pulse. She hoped and prayed that he was just knocked out, but she didn't see him breathing and couldn't find a pulse.
"Ben, get help, now!" Lorenza shouted to her brother who was still conscious. In that moment, she panicked. She didn't want to even ask at that point what had happened to cause Angelo to be in this state, or how. All she wanted was to help him. She was afraid at that point, however, that it was too late.
Moments after Ben had run out the door to get help, he came rushing back in with their neighbor. The older woman who lived next door had entered their home, but recoiled a bit at the sight of Angello.
"Oh my..." the woman said in shock. She rushed over to Angelo, doing as Lorenza did and tried to find a pulse. Unfortunately, there was no luck. This woman was a doctor, and knew what else to check, but it was all in vain. The boy was gone, and they all knew it at that point.
"Angelo!" sobbed Lorenza.
Later that night, when their parents got home, the truth finally came out about what had happened. The two boys had been fighting, and Ben beat Angelo to death. It was the most terribly terrifying thing to happen to that family. There was no doubt that Ben couldn't be kept in the house after what had happened. The house was rather quiet for the rest of the night, and Lorenza cried herself to sleep.
Days later, Ben had been moved to live somewhere else. There was a funeral for Ben, to which Angelo was not allowed to come. This aspect of their lives had been changed, and there was nothing they could do to get it back to the way it was before. Angelo was gone. Gone forever.
