When the words weigh heavy on the heart
I am lost and led only by the stars

Hypatia felt, and looked, ridiculous and she’d cringed the entirety of the chariot ride in front of all those people. Hypatia wasn’t exactly fashion conscious, more conscious of her pride than anything and so she’d hated clothing items her mother put her in before, the little pink dress in 7th grade that was far too small for her gangly form, that garish yellow jumper your brother gave you for your 16th birthday (which had promptly found itself in a bin) and the horrid clogs she found herself wearing whenever she visited her father’s work place; but the outfit she found herself in, designed by her stylist really took the cake. She detested it compared to the other banes of her wardrobe, when she’d seen herself in the mirror she’d wanted to laugh but instead had turned pale with horror at the hideous thing that was apparently called art. She looked like a human faraday cage, covered from collar bone to her knees in wire which had be expertly twisted and turned around her body to hide those private parts, but where she didn’t need covering up for modesty’s sake, the wires were widely spaced, revealing more skin than Hypatia ever considered to show.

It was embarrassing- especially with the cone of copper on her head; she wouldn’t have been surprised if she survived a strike of lightning but oh how she wished she could have been killed by one on the ride, but back inside, her only hope for a quick death to save her from the embarrassment that’d left her pride in tatters. I’ll have to redeem herself during training, she thought to herself as she stood, waiting for the elevator, praying that she could ride alone.
