Day and night dance together endlessly within this arena, and the tributes have come to realize this quickly. Darkness takes over every corner and sharp turn, perhaps with a slight tinge of generously placed lighting that isn't emitted naturally from an illuminated area. Time is indistinguishable in these walls, as is everyone's.
Echoing throughout the cavernous walls of the arena, the anthem glimmers into view upon every inch across the cave ceiling. As each fallen face switches to the next, it is replaced with a burning effect as the embers rise from the Pit of Flames and intermingle with the eerie projection.Renée Perdris, District One

Counting the deaths on fingertips, the measly number isn't difficult to make out. Two dead within the first day, and twenty-two still vying for their lives and the crown at the end of this Hell, the next day it'd be wise to not find yourself among the fallen.
The anthem fades back out, and the darkness swallows the cave whole once again. New blood feeds the God in the machine. The earth sighs as the bones shake deep under the ground. Somewhere in the darkness, something remembers.
