G I G I W I L D R O P D I S T R I C T 1 | Why am I here? template by chelseyLet me rephrase that, why do I have to be here? It's hot as all hell, and every minor in Panem is forced to spectate the Capitol's favorite Game. On the bright side, we get to remain indoors. The conditions outside are almost as scorching hot as the Arena itself, this year's theme being literal Hell. But being inside hardly helps; there's so many people packed into this school's cafeteria that it's probably hazardous. Chairs line across the rather large room and most have people seated in them, and they all would be if there weren't a bunch of people standing up away from the screen. I'd almost go on to say that the room full of people engaged in a giant monitor may even be more dangerous than the Arena right now. But, the Capitol aren't directly trying to kill us, or at least I don't think so because they would've done it by now. Rows of children watch the screen with varying attention as the fourth day of Games begin and giant mutt fights begin in two different parts of the Arena. Tributes fight both the Mutts and each other, and the younger kids watching show fear, but also focus on the action. After watching the Games more than a fair share of times, it's not entertaining for me any more. There was a certain thrill even for me when I was first in my Career training, maybe even comparable to that of Capitolite even. Scratch that, I'm not that sadistic, but you get the picture. I'd do almost anything to get out of here right about now, but Peacekeepers guard the doors with weapon in hand, visors down, ready for any sort of action at any minute. It's always fascinated me how they can patiently wait idly for so long, and manage to entertain themselves and maintain their confident presence. They can stand still for hours without hardly budging, and doubt they're lacking concentration for one second of those hours. Bottom line: There's no easy way around them, that's for sure. With the realization that I'm gonna be stuck here for a few more hours, I frustratedly plop down in one of the cheap seats farthest from the monitor projecting the Games, near a window. Resting my head on my left arm, I daze out the window where hardly anyone is walking around, only two people, both of which Peacekeepers, patrolling the streets. Even if I did manage to the cafeteria, I'd have to be incredibly stealthy to make it out of the school's premises, past their lookout. Most of the older kids are equally as bored as I am, and I scan the room for at least someone to talk to. Even if I did see someone I felt like talking to, I wouldn't have moved an inch anyways, the sheer number of people in here makes it hard to maneuver around. Anything could be more entertaining than this, hell even watching paint dry is better than this. A few minutes pass, and my mentality changes... Screw it. Once again, I turn my head to see if I can find somebody, but this time, I'm not looking for anyone in particular, I'm looking to see who looks the most fascinating to me. Slowly eyeing from person-to-person, my finger twirls around a strand of hair. Upon finding my person of interest, I judge them by their outfit. I can hardly tell that it's a girl I'm looking at, based on her denim jacket and overall tomboy appearance. She's alone, and looks just as bored as anyone here. Only a couple seats over, and empty one next to her, I stand up, and brush any dirt that might be on the back of my black and white striped dress and walk over to her, and place my bottom in seat directly next to hers. She looks tough, but is that merely a façade? Let's find out how much she really is. Making a gesture at the huge screen, my curiosity slips out. "Who do you have your money on this year? You look like you'd know of the sorts." |
