FOIL ROUND 1: NORTHROP VS. CAINE

Welcome to the Individual Foil tournament of the second Panem Olympic Games! The fencing strips are located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the strip, and remember, make your district proud!

The three fencing events (Epee, Sabre, and Foil) are tournaments, which follow brackets. Each match will have its own thread, which will be posted by me. Feel free to roleplay your character fencing their opponent for each touch and then paste the code [*roll range="1-4"] without the asterisk into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This corresponds to the number of points your competitor scored in a row, and will be added to your total. All fencing bouts go to fifteen touches and follow turn order, as a regular fight using the combat system would.

The competitor who reaches fifteen points first wins the bout and moves on to the next round. As the bouts finish, the winners will be recorded here; when all the first round bouts have been completed, the bracket will be updated and the next round will start.

ufuoma "andrew" nothrop, district one.

he hadn't expected to sign up for this. in all reality, he thought he was done for the day. guess he was wrong, huh? that seems normal. this was like a last minute entry (they needed one more person, right?) but, it was a form of practice. despite the major amount of hatred he had for the career center, he had that instinct built into him. the often told them practice whenever they can, improve their skill. make sure that they're the best they can. simple as that. and this was a form of practice. he doubted that this would be used in the games or be useful at all, but he never knew what he might come upon. That aside, he felt like this was more of an option or opportunity to meet more people. He wants to meet a lot of people outside of his district, be himself and not what people believe he was.

he had the white uniform on (and was slightly shocked when he saw he wasn't as white as the uniform), and got the weapon in hand. he felt ready, ecstatic in a form. knowing him, however, he was probably gonna flop. fuckin wimp. they both took their stances, and at the sound of release- the male went at it right away.

The only reason she's here is because her parents practically dragged her out the door. She swears she used every curse word in the book and beyond and her mother pulled her along by the wrist as if she were a child having a tantrum — which wasn't far off from the truth. Luca never took kindly to being made to do something, and she was not afraid to let someone know when she was displeased.

By the time she is in the fencing ring, she is in a sour mood, and feels the urge to start yelling every foul word she knew at anyone who looked at her the wrong way. But she contains herself, instead opting

"Nice to meet you," says her opponent, whose name she didn't bother to learn.

Nice to meet you? She immediately raises an eyebrow is disbelief and goes over the words in her head, trying to determine if she imagined them or not. Luca wasn't exactly used to polite greetings when it came to two Careers facing off — she was accustomed to a proper "fuck you" or "I'll beat you into the ground."

Did he seriously just fucking say that shit?

Luca decides that she isn't that much of an asshole to show him a real greeting, so instead she says, "It's not, actually," with a shrug as she lunges forward.

he can see the reaction implanted on her face. it was in her eyes - the disgusted, yet surprised look that painted it. she had an eyebrow raised in reaction and obviously wasn't used to the kind greeting. which, he wasn't surprised. careers were normally too focused on preparing to whoop their opponents' ass to worry about kind gestures. it took a bit for her to reply, which he wasn't necessarily surprised about, but he didn't really mind. she was probably focusing - something he was obviously failing to do. when she did respond, it wasn't much.

she just shrugged and said, "it's not actually," before taking a swing at him. what a wonderful conversation. he shook his head, disappointed but not surprised by her reaction, and took the swing.

She rolls her eyes at her opponent, and the corners of the lips turn down slightly in disappointment. Luca has always enjoyed the chaos of a good fight — spitting and screaming and swearing at each other as their swords cross — and this one is too calm for her liking.

It bores her into oblivion.

"Really? Nothing?" she remarks. She forces an exaggerated, fake yawn, opening her mouth and covering it with her hand. When it drops, it clenches into a fist at her side for a moment, as if bracing herself to strike.

Luca thinks of something aggravating to say to get something, even just a bit of fire, out of her opponent. "So boooooring," she taunts. "I might just fall asleep right here — and I'd still beat you."

And when she does strike, she has a smirk just ever so slightly curving her lips.

He swung, but never hesitated to speak again.

"I mean, good on you if you beat me, but I don't think you're gonna be able to take the heat."
