KATELYN PERSIMMON
There were only a few hours until filming for the Bachelorette finale started, so Katelyn trudged through the training center with purpose, thankful that for a little more time, she’d be wearing an outfit she’d chosen instead of what Tinselton’s stylists had picked out for her. And even so, she had to make the time to meet up with Kirito before then. She glanced at the address he had written down for her. Somewhere on Style Street, which meant it was probably a store of some kind. No matter. She’d find it. She’d barely gotten a chance to see him after their tributes had died and she missed him. He was her oldest friend in her post-games life.
It was wonderful that he’d been doing better of late, in no small part because of Oasis. Their fire-forged family just kept getting bigger, even if they had lost some people to the arena. She blew out a sigh. Home was so close and yet so far away. But the tour would get underway soon enough. And then hopefully she never have to deal with Tinselton again. Katelyn caught sight of her reflection and wondered how long it would take the show’s stylists to doll her up. She’d done her own makeup after breakfast as she normally did, but they always scrubbed her face down and did it differently. It was something that had really started to grate on her nerves. She thought about when she'd last seen Opal and pushed the thought away.
Katelyn hurried down another one of the center’s seemingly endless long hallways and spied someone ahead of her. Someone who was unmistakable. Loping down in the opposite direction was Panem’s latest victor, still adjusting to his new prosthetic. She’d caught the replay of the finale late last night, before she’d headed out to see Opal. It had been fairly brutal, but his career training had given him a definite edge; over both tributes from four as well, although she felt that that had more to do with how Roger and scout had both been half-dead by the time he’d gotten into fights with them. She slowed down her pace and waved at him, coming to a stop in the middle of the hall. Maybe she had somewhere to be, but she could spare some time to talk to him.
There’d been no one for her to talk to after her win. At least he had Opal, but she’d seen how a lot of the older victors had turned out. Sure, Justice wasn’t from eleven, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t be friendly. “Pleasure to meet you, Justice. We haven’t met properly yet, but Opal’s told me about you. Congratulations on your victory.” She offered him a handshake and smiled warmly. “I’ll be welcoming you into eleven quite early on the tour.” It’d be strange. There had been no need to show Kirito or Harbinger around the district and it had seemed like Atticus had largely kept to himself. This would be different. Hopefully, some other things would be similar. “Opal and I have been good friends for some time now, so I hope you and I can be too.”
"I'm a realist, and an optimist,
but I swear to you, I'm not getting over this."
