HISTORY OF THE VINDICTA DYNASTY AND RECENT DEVELOPMENTS.
Before the rise of the Delacroixs, the underworld of District Nine was ruled by another family. The Vindicta family was a family of gangsters that had ruled the darkest parts of the district since before the Dark Days, making their profits in a multitude of different ways and possessing enough muscle to keep even the local Peacekeeping force at bay. They ruled under the mascot and nickname of the Lions, and their role at the top of the underworld hierarchy had gone unchallenged for more than seventy years after the conclusion of the Dark Days. However, during the weak, sloppy, and decedent reign of one Leo Vindicta, the family lost both territory and resources to a multitude of smaller powers, the most notable being Calypso Delacroix, who had once been a member of the gang herself, and her band of sisters.
Frustrated with his lack of action and ineffectual rule, Leo's eldest daughter and groomed heir, Malia, gathered her own army of supporters from within the female members of the gang's ranks, including her own younger sisters, and performed a carefully executed coup d'etat, removing her father and his elite circle from power in one fell swoop and effectively taking control of the remnants of the once-mighty Vindicta gang.
Upon the removal of her father and his supporters, Malia followed the example of her rival and once-lover Calypso, removing the entire male element of the gang from service and building a power structure centered entirely upon herself and her sisters. To make up for the lost numbers, she went about recruiting several of her half-sisters - products of Leo's infidelity - and girls from around the district to create a fighting force nearly equal to that of her rival.
Her changes to the gang were more than just its personnel, however. Upon gaining power, she scrapped the old set of rules that her predecessors had once put in place and replaced it with her own, a modified code incorporating both elements of the old and the input of the new. She likewise changed the official mascot of the gang itself, replacing the lion that had once stood with a lioness as a symbol of the gang's new leadership. Calling her followers the Pride, she began ruling with an intelligent and ruthless iron fist, wiping out several of the smaller gangs that had grown lax in the Vindicta's weakness and reclaiming much of the former glory that her name had once held.
Within the span of a year, Malia and her sisters had brought back the Vindicta clan from the brink of ruin and reasserted itself as a mighty faction in Nine's underworld. Yet their time as the singular power in the region had ended when the Delacroixs had risen, and Malia now turns her sights on the power base of her former lover to determine the fate of her family once and for all...
GANG POSITIONS/RANKS
The Leader: The position of Leader of the Pride is one full of power and responsibility. The Leader is the ultimate authority in the gang, and her jobs include navigating the delicate political and strategical landscape of the underworld, enacting and enforcing the code, managing the gang's financial situation, training the new recruits, and above all, ruling with a powerful iron fist. The gang leader is usually the strongest and most capable of blood members of the family, which currently is Malia Vindicta.
The Right Hand: The Right Hand is the chief adviser, second in command, and closest confidant of the leader. The Right Hand is second in power only to the Leader, and often acts as an extension of her will, informing the Leader of breaches in the code conduct, offering advice in every situation of leadership from war to peace, and is the eventual successor of the Leader should she fall. The position of Right Hand is one that is selected by the Leader herself, and to prevent abuses of power must also earn the approval of at least half of the Pride before being elevated. This position is currently held by Severus Vindicta, the eldest of Malia's full sisters.
Sisters: The Sisters make up the rest of the gang, and act as the muscle behind Malia's leadership. They engage in many tasks given to them by the Leader or the Hand, which include scouting out hostile territory, acquiring resources, keeping away the ire of the Peacekeepers, and training in several forms of combat. The sisters are split into three separate subgroups, which are as follows:
Full-blooded sisters are the sisters directly related to Malia, and who share both the same mother and father. There are seven of them in total, and they make up the bulk of her elite forces. Each sister has been personally trained by Malia herself both in the art of combat and in the art of leadership, making the elder three some of the most feared warriors in the gang. The younger four are in the process of being trained, and although Malia forbids the three youngest of them from joining the gang on raids, battles, and expeditions, they have already begun their training and, according to the Leader herself, possess great potential. Despite their lineage, Malia treats them no differently than the rest of the gang, with the exception of Severus, her Hand.
Half-sisters are sisters fathered by Leo Vindicta but not mothered by Malia's mother. Exactly how many of them there are is unknown to all, as with each passing month the Pride receives word of another illegitimate daughter fathered by their lecherous dad. Though some of these tips have ended up false, more have ended up true, leading to a sizable portion of the Pride's numbers. Though they lack the complete linage of Malia and her full sisters, half-sisters have the extra perk of being able to inherit the leadership should a full-blooded Hand decline the opportunity.
Recruits are girls from around Nine that have no blood relation to the Vindictas, yet still were enticed into the gang life for one reason or another. They, like the half sisters, are required to swear off all blood relatives in favor of the Pride, and in turn are accepted into the fold of the Vindicta family, becoming a member in all but blood. Though recruited sisters are unable to be elected Leaders due to their lack of Vindicta blood, they are not unable to achieve power in the gang and can rise as high as the Hand itself if proven worthy.

The powerful, intelligent, charismatic leader of the Pride, Malia is everything that her father was not. It came as a shock but with little surprise when the ambitious young woman overthrew her father scant weeks after her last Reaping had come and gone, backed by her sisters and a large chunk of her father's own forces. Securing her new position quickly, she moved to crush not only the last remaining loyalists to her father, but also several of the upstart gangs that had risen in the Pride's period of weakness. Within months, the Vindictas were once again a powerful name in the underworld of Nine, matched only by the Delacroix family, lead by her ex-lover Calypso, in terms of power. Now, with the strength and morale of the Pride at an all-time high and the recent loss of one of Calypso's sisters to the Games, Malia now looks to kill two birds with one stone by exacting revenge on her rival and reestablishing the Vindicta name as the greatest in the underword in one fell swoop.
