Get up, get dressed, eat breakfast and head out the door; it was a common morning routine, and mine wasn't much different. I got out of bed and got ready for the day, getting dressed into jeans and a plain black t-shirt that was tight enough to show off the muscles that I had, but not too tight to make it unflattering. The tattoos on my arms showed with this shirt, too, which I liked. Heading down to the kitchen, I helped make breakfast for my younger sister, Angel, and the got some for myself.
After I ate some food, I said goodbye to my siblings, as my parents were already off to work for the day, and I put on a pair of black boots. The weather was still warm out, but I didn't like to wear shorts or sandals, as shorts showed the scars on my legs from a childhood injury, and sandals were something that I personally didn't find very comfortable. I headed out the door and into the morning sunshine. The heat from the sun pounded down on me, but I ignored it. Hot weather didn't usually bother me all too much.
I closed the door behind me and headed down the sidewalk in the direction of the gym, which was also a bit of a training center for those who wanted to practice their skills for the Hunger Games. I've started training over the years, which has really helped my confidence. As I approached the gym, I noticed that since it was around ten o'clock, it was rather full. A lot more people seemed to train after nine o'clock, compared to in early in the morning or at night. I'd learned that, but since I liked some variety, I went later during the day than I usually did. In general, I'd get up quite early in the morning to go training.
When I entered the gym, I saw people doing anything from working out to training with weapons. I headed over to the back, where people were sparring in hand-to-hand combat. I was usually rather good at hand-to-hand combat, but decided to watch, rather than participate that day. I didn't recognize either of the fighters, but it was enjoyable to witness them throw punches and kicks at one another, with one doing significantly better than the other.
After watching them for a while, I decided that I may as well participate myself. I went up against a boy with a slightly smaller build than I, and I did rather well, taking him down quite quickly. When I finished, I went over to get a drink of water. Then, I headed over to the mats where people were sparring once again. I scoped out the area, seeing if there was anyone else that I may be able to spar with. I spotted a girl that I thought was rather pretty; were pretty girls good competition? I guess I'd have to fight her to find out. I approached her.
"Hey, you up to spar?" I asked her.
