You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
BRAYLON YANDELLE
The weather had gradually been getting colder over the past few weeks, which I'd begun to take notice of. I'd step outside in jeans and a t-shirt, only to have to go back in and retrieve a sweatshirt, due to the goosebumps appearing on my arms and the shivering my body would decide to do. That morning, I slipped on my sweatshirt over my t-shirt, and was also wearing jeans, as well as my boots. When I stepped out into the cool outdoors, my body shook for a moment from the chill of the wind. It wasn't winter yet, but the cool fall air still tended to effect me. I've always been somewhat more sensitive to the cold than the heat.
I began walking down the street on my way to the training center. Unfortunately, today, however, things didn't end up going exactly as I had wanted them to. As I was on my way to the training center, I may have been a bit too deep in thought. I was thinking about how close the reaping was getting, and I was rather excited for it, too. The training I was planning on doing that day was something that I was looking forward to as well, because that meant I would likely be able to do some sparring that day, or perhaps take the time to train with some weapons that I wanted to use a bit more than I already had.
When I was venturing down the sidewalk, my thoughts distracted me more than they should have, and I managed to embarrass myself. As I went, I managed to stumble badly enough over my own feet that hit my shin on a bench that I was walking by. It hurt rather badly, and I swore under my breath. Quickly, I looked around to see if anyone had noticed what I had just done. For many people, it wouldn't be too embarrassing to hit their shin on something while walking. For me, however, as someone with a 'tough guy' reputation that I didn't want to mess up, that wouldn't be something I was able to just forget about.
As I surveyed the area, I did notice a girl nearby, and immediately approached her. She had to have seen, and if she said anything about it to anyone, even if she didn't know exactly who I was, I wouldn't be happy. Now, of course, I know that not everyone will just go blurting out that they saw some buff dude run into a bench while he was daydreaming, but I didn't know this girl, so I felt the need to say something. When I went up to her, I spoke up.
"Hey, what did you see just now?" I asked her sternly. I wanted a direct answer. She wouldn't be getting around it.
