Nicknames: Cora, May
Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 8
Face Claim: Romy Schonberger
Appearance:
Corina is a relatively pretty girl, with pale skin and deep brown eyes. She has mostly straight rows of white teeth, and a small nose. Her cheekbones are almost too well-defined, bordering on gauntness. Among her few blemishes is a set of freckles on her cheeks and nose, which she tries to lighten with lemon juice when she can get it. Her eyebrows are very dark and somewhat thick. Corina wears her dark hair long, about to the middle of her back, and because she isn’t very vain or doesn’t care overly much about her appearance she keeps it up and out of her face so she can be comfortable, usually in a ponytail. Corina is rather unassuming in a crowd, hard to miss and is usually only noticed when she wants to be. Her dark way of dressing and diminutive height help with this; the girl only stands at 5”1.
Her style of dress is minimalistic and mostly concerned with being comfortable; typically softer pants, loose and long, and shirts with short sleeves if she can, depending on the weather. The colors don’t really matter to Corina so she typically just sticks to wearing dark blues and black. Her shoes are also mostly comfortable and easy to be quiet in. She hates wearing high-heeled shoes partly because they are so uncomfortable and partly because they make so much noise. In all, Corina is a pretty young girl who is just trying to survive in a difficult world.
Personality:
Corina, much like her appearance, is unassuming in personality. She doesn’t talk to many people, and is only very rarely the one to start the conversation in the first place. When she does talk, it is very intelligently and with an articulate vocabulary, though she doesn’t need many words to get her point across. Corina does try and stay away from people in general, though, for self-preservation purposes.
When someone manages to break through her shell Corina is a good, loyal friend. She will defend you to the bitter end, and would only stop being loyal if you did first. Corina is also a dastardly prankster with her friends; she doesn’t do many practical jokes, but will jump out at you when you’re least expecting it. She finds some sort of strange amusement in jumping out at her friends, for reasons even she cannot fully explain, other than “it’s fun.”
Finally, Corina is a good liar. She doesn’t often have to use these skills, but when she does it is as natural as breathing to the girl. Her face shows no sign of her deceit, her heart does not quicken, and her stare is just as deadpan as it usually is. But though she is a good liar she is also a girl of few words. Her stealthy being helps her survive and if she were ever reaped, heaven forbid, she could survive with stealth there too.
History:
For Corina life was never simple. Her parents were simple fabric makers, which didn’t pay very much. Corina was the youngest of three siblings, with two older brothers named Eric and James. They took care of the family by stealing in the marketplace, and Corina found herself tagging along and learning the skills of the “trade.” The girl learned from her brothers to be stealthy and a good liar as well.
Her parents were loving but rarely had time to spend with the children so they were left alone most days. From an early age Corina excelled in school, though she was very quiet. She had very few friends, but when she had one she would defend them to no end against bullies or even teachers. Corina made a reputation for herself as being the shy, quiet, or even weird girl, but the words of bullies didn’t bother her much. She had a tough skin.
As she grew up Corina began to see how messed up life in the Districts was. Everyday her parents would work their hands to the bone in order to make enough money to prevent her brothers from taking out tesserae to feed the family, and her brothers had to steal food to keep their family afloat. Even with her parents’ efforts Eric and James still took out two tesserae apiece every year until Corina was old enough to do it herself. In fact, the year Corina turned twelve, Eric was caught stealing for the first time ever and was severely beaten by the town Peacekeepers. From then on the siblings resolved to never steal again…. But the lessons had been learned by Corina and that knowledge wasn’t going anywhere.
Now Corina is in the Reapings for real, and is taking out tesserae to help support the family in lieu of theft from the marketplace. She has nightmares of being picked for the Hunger Games… but sometimes she can't help but think it would be a good thing if she could win and give the spoils to her family and district
